While I'm enjoying the fall of Limbaugh and enjoying a bit of fun with my mates, I have my doubts that the sneering, cigar smoking, cartoon bully he played in public was much more than a character.Like the studio executive who upbraided Doris Day,"I remember you before you were a virgin" I remember Rush before he was a "conservative" when Reagan was president and Saddam and the Taliban were still the good guys, he had some insightful criticism for both sides of the political spectrum. He was quite star struck by Bush senior and found that blathering insults of an outgroup paid better than thoughtful commentary. Was he ashamed? For Rush money, I'm sure many of us would be tempted to play a buffoon for baskets of deplorables. I might and would find it absolutely hilarious to be awarded the Medal of Freedom for calling people feminazis, but I'd feel kind of dirty inside too.
