Here's a self-described "ethical pimp" who left the U.S. to live in a country that is more free. Pointing out that, until we get religion and money out of politics, the U.S. is not nearly as free as some politicians would have us believe.

Decriminalized prostitution sounds like a fair and positive social policy. Too bad it has no chance of ever happening in America because of how politically strong our evangelical and Catholic churches are. And all the while so many of their ministers, priests, and congregation members continue to visit prostitutes illegally now and would continue to do so on the sly if it were decriminalized here. To me, it sounds like decriminalized prostitution makes it no different than massage therapy or physical therapy, just that it will never be covered under health insurance policies like those two services.

Should prostitution be legal? Probably. Should a mother leave her 9 year old daughter home alone all day and night probably not. She can boast about making a fortune as an ethical pimp but as a mother she rates a 1.

I'm betting she has some kind of child care. But she didn't mention it.

@mischl not sure that covers the mom part. Wonder what her kid thinks about seeing her mother once at breakfast a day for how many years?

It's logical and treats women with respect; therefore it will never happen in the US.

Alas, probably not in our lifetime. But things are SLOWLY changing in the U.S., as religion begins to fade (just like it did in Europe). I dream of the day when we'll have a well-managed neighborhood bordello.

@mischl The closest thing we have are strip clubs.

@MizJ Alas, a strip club doesn't solve the problem, it exacerbates it.

@mischl hahahahahahahaha. I have an acquaintance that lives in the Red Light district in Amsterdam. He thinks that we are barbaric for endangering women (and others) that work in the sex trade. There they are safer, get health checks, rarely are assaulted. Our Puritanical attitude towards sex is anti-women in my opinion.

@MizJ I agree with you. Because yes, making sex workers into criminals and forcing them to work "on the street" is indeed barbaric. I've been to Amsterdam (decades ago) and I liked it very much. And yes, I participated.
