Do you think atheists or non-believers in general, tend to be more neurotic? Are they maybe more aware and accepting of their neuroticism? I'm an atheist and neurotic as fuck. I've come to terms with my mental issues and I think it has helped me cope and treat them better than someone who might believe everything is predestined by a certain entity and live in suffering/denial.

At first I thought -- yeah, because religiouis people do put all their eggs in some godly basket, so they're in denial and happy. But then I thought -- I'm an atheist, and am kind of neurotic, but as AMGT said, my mental health issues have nothing to do with my atheism. A lot of issues can be inherited, or as AMGT said (again), related to trauma and/or a bad childhood (bad parents). I had a friend who was a devout Christian, and totally paranoid about everything. To quote a line from The West Wing: Post hoc ergo propter hoc.

I think that theists and conservatives tend to be happy as pigs in shit, while atheists and liberals tend to be neurotic about all the shit they're in 🙂
