People who rationalize historical personages or actions in history as understandable because its just how everybody thought or beleived at the time are minimizing the anguish of the victims who were the target of those actions. It is a white privilege or a male privilege thing to do, becuase it is usually the white culture (at least in the US) that perpetrate these actions and similarily is ususlly a white person who is trying to rationalize the action away.

This includes such sins as slavery, the churches handling of young girls who had babies out of wedlock (especially the Catholic Church, but not limited to them), treatment of women in general, treatment of Native Americans, minorities in general, and gays.

To rationalize the historical mistreatment of groups of people upon another as just the way it was seen at that time, is to minimalize the pain, anguish, and viloence perpetrated upon them. Its a very white privilege thing to do in this culture.

(I'm sure someone will find examples and exceptions of the reverse, but just remember, exceptions do not make the rule, they are afterall, exceptions).

And it is not revisionist history writing to point this out. Just the opposite, it is correcting the mistakes of the past reporting. Afterall, history is most often written by the victor, and in our case the victor, white privilege. did not want to be criticized for what they did.

The third paragraph of your post conveys the same thought as the second sentence of your first paragraph.

Didn't you think you stated your point clearly enough the first time?

I don't know you tell me.

You don't know? It is all but a copy and paste. When you want to get real, let me know.

I'll add that your entire post does not seem too well thought out. The post seems to say if an Olympian got a 9.9 score we should pay most attention to the fact that the .1 deficiency needs the same attention as the 9.9.

For example, our Founding Fathers were truly giants of their time. They were also human and as such not perfect. Washington was a great General and a good President. He also owned slaves. Does his .1 override his 9.9?

Yes I have heard the argument used that some tortures used, were. "No worse than the dentistry in those days."

I then have to think carefully to myself. Do I really need to add, for the sake of the stupid ?
That assumes that people then had no greater fear of dentistry then than they do now.

The fallacy in their argument is that not everyone in the oppressive culture believe the oppressive actions are OK.

I hope to bring your comments about minimization to anyone's attention that tries to minimize those acts. It is an appropriate and important way to address their denial.

Very plain that the white privilege victor does not want to be criticized for anything in 2021. We are not advancing in any ways other than in stupidity.

The fact that is being talked about publicly and by high level celebrities and politicians mean that it has legs and momentum.
