Belarus Sprinter Becomes an Unlikely Dissident...

"An Instagram complaint against her coaches embroiled Kristina Timanovskaya in the precarious politics of her home country, and may force her into asylum..." Belarus officials are spreading rumors she is mentally ill and which suggest danger to her if she returns to her country.

Question: What is the matter with coaches who try to force Olympic athletes to perform in events which could compromise their physical wellbeing?

It's Appalling that any coach would demand or pressure an athlete to perform while injured.
Unfortunately it happens world wide..in every town, city and burg.

Yes, appalling...
She was trained in the 200 m. sprint, not the 400 m. relay, and was afraid she could injure herself.
Being forced and threatened because she refused to risk an injury is despotic and cruel.

I was training on the national swim team to go to the Olympic. Lucky, I sense an injury coming on, and was pig headed enough to refuse to continue. About 90% of the work is physical to get to world class level. Then it's mostly mental after that.

The olympic US Gymnast stopped because she knew her mental state of her mind. It was not right to continue and a high risk of injury. Too many world class athletes have serious injuries that effect themselves for the rest of their lives. Only the individual athletes should make that ultimate decision.
