Do you think praying for things is a disorder?

I am not talking about meditation.

No, it is a taught behavior. Perfectly understandable within the delusion that religion promotes. I don’t see it as inherently bad. For example, it can promote positive movement towards an outcome simply by envisioning it. Beyond that, it’s just a waste of time.

Oh, and I suppose you could use it to attract the attention of the cute blond in the next pew….not that I would know of such things 😉

I am inclined to consider prayer as being essentially no different from fantasy, no more effective than wishful thinking. Of course, if the believer's pray is not granted then he/she will say that it is god's will. Seems that self deception knows no limits...

Probably just a desperate attempt for help

I am not a trained psychologist so I have no idea whether it is a typical disorder. I do know it's useless.

Yes, if the religious person believes in a god that practices free will, and most of them do, oblivious to the contradiction of praying to a deity for things that practices non intervention, which is what free will means. Religion is a form of mental disorder. Some more courageous psychologists doing research into religion even say so.

It’s a sign of weakness and laziness.

“I prayed so I don’t have to do anything else”.

@TheMiddleWay what about those folks that pray before they leave and they get hit head on by a semi that kills them and two of their three kids like happened here last week.
I pronounced the two girls dead and the little boy is still alive but is unlikely to make it.
Should her husband thank god for that too?
Sounds like a rather twisted faith you follow there.

@TheMiddleWay
Then why pray at all?
