Oh, and I love Ute Lemper, too. Her album of cabaret songs from 1920s Berlin is a masterpiece, as are her other recording, esp. "Punishing Kiss" and her rendition of songs from Brecht/Weil's "Three Penny Opera."

June Tabor. English folk/artsong singer. Performed with Maddie Prior (of Steeleye Span) as "Silly Sisters," and with the Oyster Band (Her rendition of Grace Slick's "White Rabbit" is amazing.) Sings many songs from and about WW I (one of the first people to record Eric Bogle's "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" and his "The Green Fields of France," ) did a album of 1940s jazz standards. Does humorous songs, like Les Barker's "Oh, the Hard Cheese of Old England," and fantastic renditions of Richard Thompson songs. Once you've heard her, no one else can compare. She gently rips your heart out.
