Either I have been doing something right or by feeding the differing bird species is creating a new social awareness in the white Corellas who visit my home for their free breakfasts, etc.
It is widely accepted that the White Corellas, whether the Long Billed or the Short Billed varieties, are ONLY social towards those of their own kind and NEVER mix happily with other bird species at all.
For about the first 6 -7 months the Corellas , even when it was just one or two at first, would drive away all the other birds from the free seed meals I would put out.
But as I have observed of late, the last few weeks in fact, the Corellas who accept the invite to a free meal at my house are now actually tolerating and eating with ALL the other bird species who are breakfast guests, EXCEPT the FERAL Sparrows, who the Corellas seem to find great enjoyment and fun in vigorously chasing away.
I must admit though, the thought of being a sparrow and confronted by a a Corella about the same dimensions as your average chicken, even I would be very loath to stretch my luck and take on such a bird , hooked beak and all.

Wonderful, isn't it? Without the competition for food, it looks like it is easier to be social. 🙂

The abundance of food may be a factor in what you are seeing.

Depends upon what is meant by abundance, they only get a set amount at each feeding because IF they get too well catered for then they may well cease to seek of food for themselves.
Though, for the honey/nectar eaters their feeding container is kept full or replenished at all times because the availability of nectar etc from flowering plants out this is erratic to say the least.
