Here’s my take on Easter: The candy is yummy, painting and hiding eggs is fun, and the bunny-shaped pancakes are adorable. Plus it’s a nice excuse for a family dinner.

My mom lived in SC for 20 years and loves that store. I always refer to it as "pube licks".
She thinks their seeded Italian bread is amazing. I think it doesn't even hold a candle to the $1 loaf of seeded Italian from Walmart.

I care more about the work/life balance of poorly paid employees than the profits of shareholders.

@JonnaBononna Shareholders are not my main concern, either. I have a problem with imposing religiously or culturally motivated restrictions on people that do not belong to those groups. Like Blue laws. Why the fuck can't I buy alcohol on Sunday? If religious folk don't want to buy alcohol on Sunday, they can simply not buy any. But if a store owner wants to sell it to me, and I want to buy it, the religious ideals of some uninvolved third party shouldn't be able to prevent that transaction. I see no difference between that, and stores being pressured to close their doors.

@JeffMurray as someone said above, I don't see it as a religious holiday. I get together with my kids and grandkids on Easter- we may hunt eggs and have baskets and candy, but no prayer is said and any mention of Jesus, if any, has the word zombie before it. It's just family time, just like Christmas is.

@JonnaBononna Me too, but in that case you could have "Easter" on any random day you choose that's good for everyone. You don't have to impose on others by closing stores and stuff.

I like to be able to shop at a store that treats their employees well. Fareway, the discount grocery store I shop at, is closed on Sun., but I doubt it treats its employees that well overall. They installed scanners for self-checkout over a year ago, and that let them get rid of some cashiers for extra profit...

@TomMcGiverin I generally will avoid using self-checkout whenever possible.
I've not seen any at Publix.

@KKGator Where I live, all the grocery stores now have them. I still make my stand in vain against them and wait in line with the other stubborn souls at Target, Wal-Mart, or the grocery stores to try keeping their remaining cashiers employed. But most people are sheeple and never think for a second that using the self scanners is a political decision that costs people jobs. Selfish and brainless....

@KKGator Me also when it comes to those Self-Checkouts, imo, they are robbing a person/persons of a n employment opportunity at the very least.

When you have small children, the Easter bunny is a lot of fun.

@Lorajay They don't have to work 24 hours every Easter... Trade, bribe, rotate, whatever you need to do, but don't inconvenience a bunch of non-religious or other-religious people.

@Lorajay True, but I've forgotten to buy stuff. Or I had to work all day and needed to buy stuff for my single lonely person dinner after work.

@JeffMurray those inhuman work places usually stay open 24/7 regardless of whether it's Easter or any other day except Christmas. That means you can always go after work on your way home unless it's Christmas Day.

@Lorajay And I appreciate that. If I didn't want to work any weekends or holidays, people would probably tell me I shouldn't have chosen healthcare because that's a 24/7 gig. And who gets to decide that? The hospital itself. If a store owner feels like it's in their best interest to be open on holidays, I don't see how that's any different. People can boycott them or support them as a result of their decision. I fully support them. In fact, like @JackPedigo said, I will boycott any store that makes this change in the hopes that it curbs this trend in the future.
