Another reason why I hate people.

I have four cats--all rescues, three were strays who showed up or were dropped at my house and one as a result of one of the strays getting pregnant during the pandemic when spaying was not a necessary service.

About two months ago, another stray showed, a shy but sweet and affectionate tuxedo cat. I made an appointment to have her spayed at a local clinic, but the appointment was almost two months out. When she appeared to be going into heat, I shut her up in my garage and she stayed in there for four weeks. Today, I took her in for the spay.

She had a wheezy nose since she wandered up, but I decided to go ahead with the operation anyway. However, the tech just called and said that they did a feline leukemia test on her and it was positive. I had an experience with FL years ago, and opted to have her euthanized.

And why does this give me but another reason to hate people? Because some fucking asshole dumped her on the side of the road as if she were an empty beer can. People dumped two of my other cats on the side of the road in the same manner. Someone didn't take care of the parents of the three feral cats I feed and dumped them.

Soooo . . . People like me try to knit together the loose ends. It isn't even the money that I am out for the medical services, but the cruel and careless actions of evil people who have no hearts.

I was not truly attached to the cat (whom I named "Tuxie" for her tuxedo coat), but I still mourn her and I mourn the million other cats--and dogs--dumped on sides of roads.

And as FL is contagious, now, I have to be concerned about my other cats.

People suck: we are a contagion on the face of the earth.

Bebe12 has not been thru our filter yet. She is a level 5.
Been there done that. But I have seen a huge shift in people's attitude towards animal abandonment. Living in a rural area, animals were often dumped & many of us took I those "residual" pets. Spay/neuter/ anti puppy mill legislation, the catch/neuter/ release programs, Craig'slist, peer pressure, education, bird protectors, Bob Barker, have reduced the euthanasia rate nationally. Currently moving animals from the south, that has been resistant to efforts addressing this problem, to areas with a demand for dogs & cats. I once had 16 cats in the garage, all I had neutered. I also had in house special cats. Old man Budzig let his "barn cats" reproduce unfettered. It was a Hell Fire Club for cats over there. I am currently sans cats as the previous sins mentioned are not occurring any longer. I have often found cats hanging around hotels that I stayed a in my travels. My new plan is to bring them home when I encounter them. And to visit shelters for dogs out of my state. "Yes we can!"

@Gwendolyn2018 Missouri is a tough state for animal lovers. In Wisconsin we had to pass a law as the Amish were coming in from Pennsylvania to set up puppy mills. PA. had just addressed the issue with new laws restriction the mills. There is a whole group on FB for Trap/Neuter/Release practioners. The struggle continues. Chin up!

I find it incomprehensible how anyone can abandon a pet or any animal without a guilty conscience. Despicable actions such as this is a sign of sociopathic behavior .I have had many dogs and cats in my lifetime and could not imagine doing something so reprehensible as this

To make a blanket statement and say you hate people makes you sound like a miserable misanthrope which you probably are..There are plenty of people who rescue animal’s myself included .Just say you hate people that abandon animals which I often say myself.

Why the insult?
Be mindful of the consequences of all your actions and recognize that you must take responsibility for them.
Treat others as you would want them to treat you, and can reasonably expect them to want to be treated. Think about their perspective.

You must be about 12, mentally.
Let me assure you that as you get a bit of experience of the world you will realize @Gwendolyn2018 is spot-on, people pretty much suck!

@bebe12 Just another nut job like so many of the losers on this site. It said it did not care what you think but wrote a boring diatribe in response to your comment .LOL.

@godlessguy exactly LOL

When we first moved to Seattle we found an apartment on the edge of a wooded rim. A few days later a kitten Tabby showed up had obviously wanted to adopt us. Later we took him (Spike) to the vet for an exam and were informed he had Feline Leukemia. When people moved out of the complex they often abandoned their cats and left them to fend for themselves in the wooded area. Most had caught the leukemia. People seem to think animals are here for their pleasure and when they get to be a little work they are simply thrown away. I don't hate people just what some people do.

@Gwendolyn2018 I don't know if there's a vaccine for the disease. Spike started breaking his leg and for over a year he went clumping around with a case. After 3 years it has spread to his lungs and he had to be put down. I was holding him as he looked into my eyes. He knew something was going to happen.

@Gwendolyn2018 It was my then partner that wanted to adopt the cat. At first I was against it as we already had an adult, female, cat that wanted nothing to do with the little guy. When I discovered my partner took Spike to work and left food and water in the car that I relented. At the time of euthanasia the vet said it was illegal to bury a pet in one's yard but he also said it wasn't strictly pushed and vets had the final say. The disease dies with the animal so we could bury it. I made a wooden coffin and dug a deep hole. My partner didn't want to be present but I was. When I went to pick up the body rigormortis had set in and I had to rebuild the coffin and widen the hole. My partner made a heart shaped headstone from clay and had it fired. Two shots, with both cats and with his cast.

@Gwendolyn2018 Unfortunately, the one bad thing with pets is one must get used to their deaths. When Spike died my partner was beside herself. Some visitors found another kitten to replace him (and I stupidly went along). This upset her and she said the cat was mine. We did find a mate for him and that cat turned out to be an amazing cat. Smart, fearless and a bit crazy (we named him Cosmo for cosmic kitty). When we split I insisted she take all three and not break up the cat family. Years later I found out she left Seattle and headed home to Detroit and law school. I had assumed all the cats had died.

@Gwendolyn2018 The white cat, Aspro (she was named after the Greek word for white) was an alpha female. Every time we moved, she got a little more hostile Cats don't normally like having a change of scenery (as do some people). Yes, pets can turn out a better companion than some people.

@Gwendolyn2018 Interesting, kind of like people. I once read pets often like it a little rough, meaning to pet them hard of ruffle their fur. I decided to try this on Aspro. She did like it. Often, when I came home, she would come to me and then lie down. I would put my hand behind her head and spin her around on the vinyl floor. She would stand up being dizzy. Spike would come to the dining room doorway to see what was going on. When Aspro got over being dizzy she would look around and when she saw him would run and give him a smack. It only took a couple of times, Spike got it, and when he saw what was going on would run and hide. Unfortunately, years later, my daughter told me the same thing went on at her house. Her stepfather would stop by a liquor store on the way home and start drinking when he got home. My ex would then start an argument with him about his drinking (he was an active alcoholic). He would then look for someone to lash out to and my daughter would be the one. She learned to either tell him what he wanted (lie) or not be around. They had a daughter soon after we got divorced and she remarried. Of course this daughter got all the resources. My daughter told me she lived the Cinderella life, and was still waiting for prince charming. Luckily, she was born with a sense of independence and toughness. She is doing great today.

These pets are not machines. They are just like us. They get scared, cold and hungry. I treat animals like I treat humans.

@Gwendolyn2018 Yep. I HAD a person tell me he dropped off a cat in some neighborhood where the owner had died. He knew I worked at a shelter. He is done as a friend.

I got mine by hearing a noise after a horrible two hour drive home through a severe snowstorm. (normally a 20 minute drive) I heard her, didn't see anything, went to put the key in the door again and heard it a second time. Dug under a snowdrift under the stairs and there she was. Took an hour in a tepid tub to warm her enough to move. Vet said she was dying is what I heard. Nobody called in response to found posters I put up and her vet testing says she has feline aids antibody in her system. I think perhaps that why someone dumped her. I keep her alone, good quality food, and keep her inside though I've chipped her just in case. I've had her eight years. She'll be well cared for until she is gone.

Having read the responses so far, I have to say that you are a considerate and kind person. When I get my space ship to work you will be one of the people who is asked to come along. There are more here that I have not contacted yet, but it may be a while until I have the black hole generator working. And I mean the astronomical entity 'black hole'.

@Gwendolyn2018 Perhaps we should get together and discuss further development.

@Gwendolyn2018 The grandson can be the first engineer, I will need people who understand this stuff.

@Gwendolyn2018 How old is he and what kind of science is he interested in?

@Gwendolyn2018 Reminds me of myself, I hope he does not have a learning disorder like me. I wish him well with his studies.

@Gwendolyn2018 SWell now I am pissed. I have met several people who are autistic and they can be smart as hell. Of course, the opposite is also true. I would like to say that if he is interested he could write to different influential people and see if they reply. I have found that if the questions are intelligent and show some interest much can be gained. There is nothing to lose. I have written to Neil DeGrasse Tyson and gotten replies from his people, he cannot do it all himself, but answers can be gotten. Just thought I would offer an idea.

@Gwendolyn2018 I was just thinking that it was a source for information. The world is changing so fast that whatever they are working on now will be old hat when he is twenty or older. I have not visited the site, I just heard the podcast and thought it was interesting.

Very sad, and you are right, though some are good. I have a wonderful and sweet rescue dog who was dumped at a high kill shelter down south. Some rescue people brought him and others up north to our no kill shelter, which is where I found him. IDK what I'd do without him.

I have often responded to Facebook posts asking "What is the one thing you would get rid of to make the world a better place?" I generally answer "Humans".

@Matias I have contributed little to the world population, and in the grand scheme of things have a rather small footprint. I reuse much of what others would throw away, I leave any areas in nature that I visit cleaner than when I leave. And the rest of humanity is doing a pretty fair job at eliminating itself. Or were you asking if I was going to turn into a mass casualty terrorist? In which case, the answer is no, due to the previous sentence. There are plenty of people out there doing a fine job.

@Barnie2years Don't even bother talking to him. He's indicative of the people we hate.
