Let it grow… let it groooow… Mother Nature doesn't nag at me for being lazy like the lady next door does.
No Mow May is a conservation initiative launched by Plantlife UK. The goal of No Mow May is to allow grass to grow unmown for the month of May, creating habitat and forage for early season pollinators.
97% of British wildflower meadows have disappeared since the 1930s. This unprecedented loss has stripped our bees, butterflies, birds and mammals of their natural homes and contributed to a devastating decline in our wildlife population. The reasons behind this are the use of insecticides, habitat loss and an overall reduction in biodiversity.
Plantlife’s No Mow May campaign doesn’t ask you to do much. In fact, it asks you to not do anything at all… Just lock up your lawnmower on May 1st and let the wild flowers in your lawn bloom, providing a feast of nectar for our hungry pollinators.
97% of wildflower meadows in the UK have vanished since the '30s. It's a major bummer, but there's hope. No Mow May is all about letting your grass run wild in May, which is like a buffet for our early pollinator buddies.
Plantlife keeps it simple, man. They ain't asking you to break a sweat. Just stash away that lawnmower on May 1st and watch those wildflowers bloom. It's like an all-you-can-eat nectar buffet for our buzzing friends.
Oh, and if you're still hunting for info on wildflowers, check out this guide I found on mklibrary.com.
I would love to do this with my little acre, but my HOA would jump down my proverbial throat! However, there are thousands of perennials and lots of fruit-bearing trees and shrubs in residence, so I do get a lot of wildlife, including many different birds, butterflies, bumblebees and others.
