I had a feeling the J6 hearings would blow the Done Cheato's sedition conspiracy wide open, and only half way through, they have totally lived up to expectations. The Committee's presentation is thorough, professional, and absolutely devastating. First, they have destroyed any argument that their investigation is just a partisan witch hunt by presenting a parade of Republican witnesses, many from inside Cheato's own administration. Second they have shown damning evidence that the orange menace had corrupt mens rea (consciousness of guilt) when he [A] falsely claimed the 2020 election was stolen, [B] pressured his vice president to halt certification of the electoral count, and [C] failed to reinforce the Capitol Police against the attack he had incited. In the coming hearings we will learn more about Cheato's fraudulent fund raising off the Big Lie, his attempts to corruptly influence State Legislators and coerce the Georgia Secretary of State into flouting the will of the people, and much more. The Justice Department has indicated that they want the Committee's witness testimony transcripts. I'm certain that after the hearings have concluded the Attorney General will hand down an indictment for treason against the swamp thing from Mar-a-Lago. Stay tuned.

I don't think the hearings will make much difference in the next two elections, because even if people feel Trump and the Repubs were guilty of making the insurrection happen, people will remember and care more about how Biden and the Dems promised so much in 2020 and then failed to deliver on it. And those same people will not buy the argument that the big, bad meany Repubs were who prevented them from doing it. They are able to see that it was more due to Pelosi, Schumer, Biden, and also Manchin and Sinema, so they will blame the who party and the Dems will lose big the next two times. As they deserve to..

You have more faith in justice than I do. The hearings are great and they have already bumped the numbers who believe Trump was lying up 10% over the numbers before the start of the live hearings.
By the same token, Trump picked candidates are winning primaries in many Red states and the line up to kiss the ring doesn’t seem to be going away down in Mar Lago! That makes me sad.

You're right: Republican primary candidates are falling over each other trying to be the bigger Trump sycophant. But that is to be expected in primaries in gerrymandered districts. The big question is, can they win in a general election? That 10% figure you cited is huge.

Yes, the hearings are excellent.

I feel a small kernal of hope growing that there will be a favorable outcome and that the tide is slowly turning.

The dam is breaking and Done Cheato is right downstream πŸ˜‚

I would like to hope that would happen but unfortunately his loyal supporters seem hell bent not to budge. What we need is a more centrist party to form for those of us who don't particularly like either the Republican or Democratic parties.

@ClassicalRebel What we need is a party that represents the people, reason, logic, and the Constitution. That will be hard to get as the only way it works is to have a majority of people vote for it over the present two. We cannot have the new party split the vote of the democrat party as that would just put the repub in office, and who wants that. I think most of them are being seen as accomplices, and so as soon as they are in power the whole thing falls apart.

@ClassicalRebel Yes, this won't hurt his support one bit, and just gives more fodder for "Stop the Steal" propaganda. The system is broken, only a civil war or revolution is going to change it.

@Druvius I think you are forgetting the powerful effect that putting Done Cheato on trial would have. Trumpists may ignore the Select Committee hearings, but I think they will tune in to a trial with rapt attention. And the same testimony and witnesses they dismiss now will be right in their faces. Sure, there will always be a hard core that will never accept reality, but I think they will turn out to be a smaller group than they appear to be right now. The white supremacists and white Christian nationalists were already among us before Cheato's rise, and they will still be here after his fall. But putting him on trial will be a defining moment. As the American public comes up to speed on the facts of the case it is going to become increasingly difficult to argue in favor of "witch hunts" or a mythical "deep state." So far, the right has been loudly voicing their opinions while the left has been quietly gathering evidence and building a case. Now the whole discussion is shifting; the center of gravity is moving to the left. Stay tuned.

@Flyingsaucesir Your optimism is quaint, hope you're right.

@Druvius I don't know if it's optimism so much as belief that the simplest explanation is usually the correct one (an idea popularly known as Occam's razor), and in the case of Done Cheato the simplest explanation is that he is a crook and a liar. I think fence-sitters will come to see that as a trial unfolds.

@ClassicalRebel I think both Parties should break into their own two factions and all four should be on the ballot. I'd use tiered voting, or whatever they call picking candidates by preference, and that should give voter sentiments greater clarity.

@rainmanjr tiered voting., AKA instant runoff voting... and there's also another term for it. Whatever you call it, I like it! πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘
