One of the fathers of Modern Medicine .. found Adenosine Triphosphate and developed Methotrexate most famously. Never got a Harvard tenure but Fiske's best ideas were robbed from "Yellapragada Subbarow" .. Unknown legend.. He has now been recognised as the man Fiske stole his best work from.
Probably has something to do with the fact that he is a man of color and not Eurocentric in appearance.
Undoubtedly in that era !! Not a look in. There were some influential Indian born female scientists too. Suppose their odds of being recognised for what they did are even less sadly.
I kind of got stuck on him developing Methotrexate. Both my baby brother and mom used that because it was the only treatment that worked for their severe psoriasis.
It's a shame that he isn't widely known. He really needs to be recognized for his contributions to medicine and science.
Yes I agree and that's why I am sharing it !! It saved my bro too.. he had colitis going cancerous and methotrexate was part of his treatment at points too.. !!! I wouldn't have a bro without this dude!! He should have a statue somewhere!!!
I got one for you. It used to be that diabetics went to see their doctor once per month and get their blood sugar checked. There was this doctor who said we check the blood sugar many times per day when they are in the hospital. If they could check their own they could prevent the diabetic crisis that brought them to the hospital. His colleagues told him Wishful thinking. The meters are too complex and our patients can't learn to do it. This doctor went out to Lifescsn and asked them to make a simple meter for home use. They agreed with him. Now, every diabetic tests themselves. Myself included. Oh, and that doctor was my dad.
Lovely matey !!!
Your dad is a dude!! My God father is a Uk Diabetes / Anatomy / Parkinsons expert .. he trains GP's too and my cousin was a cancer research scientist for a while !! Go your dad !! I love it when people don't listen to negativity .. I bet he is a character !!
I really enjoyed your presentation of your storyline. And just cause I must, that's fucking awesome !!
@Fibonacci1618 thanks. He and his team were the first to discover that there are two types of diabetes, also. I have type 2. My oldest son has type 1
Interesting.
Yes I was really surprised by it all .. total accidental discovery ! We really don't get told the whole story do we!
Had to look him up as I never heard of him. Wow, he really did a lot for the world
He really did .. and he was never credited .. Only once he was dead! I found out by accident and it seems nobody knows!!
