"The inquiry is related to the department's broader probe of efforts to overturn the 2020 election results and not a criminal investigation of Trump himself, the official said."

NOT A CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION OF TRUMP HIMSELF ! ! ! ! Well, it was nice while it lasted. For almost a day, we were told that DOJ might actually address the overt attempted coup. NOT SO. What is it with Trump that he gets off no matter what? What is it with the DOJ that they show themselves to be a partisan tool of the GQP? I am so tired of mealy-mouthed lies and misinformation from Garland.

[nbcnews.com]

In Trump's recent speech, as usual, he turns everything on its head. He says he's the most victimized person in US history, when the truth is he's victimized more Americans than any other president. He complains about civil service staff being corrupt when he's the one that stuffed loyal-to-Trump traitors into all these bureaus.

"Trump's defense secretary denies there were orders to have 10K troops ready to deploy on January 6" Trump claimed this in his speech, but it never happened. What DID happen is that the brother to the traitor, Michael Flynn, Lt. Gen. Charles Flynn delayed the deployment of the National Guard because of, his word, 'optics'. And yet with a patent traitor in the top Pentagon echelon, Biden does nothing, NOTHING!!! NOTHING???? WHAT THE FUCK.

[cnn.com]

Same for Christopher Wray. That motherfucking asshole knew about the coup, not only by the media, but by the reams of internet traffic. And what did he do? He called the Capitol Police. But, who in the Capitol police did he call? Was it the traitor Chad Thomas who resigned the next day? So why the FUCK is Wray still in the FBI???? Because the fix is in and we are all screwed to hell.

I'm with you, I have no faith in Garland or the Dems that Trump or anyone at or near the top of the coup conspiracy will be indicted, much less see prison, over the insurrection. The Dems are just using the Jan. 6 hearings as a campaign ad for the midterms.

I read this as walking back wording in order to remove any claim that AG Garland is targeting a political rival. It doesn't change anything and a crime can be charged at any time during this "probe." It does bare watching but I'm not going to lose faith because of it.

I will concede the possibility of what you say. It's like the aliens. If they had ever wanted to contact us, they would have. If DOJ wanted to indict Trump, they've had the Mueller Report in hand since Jan 21. But as bad as Trump is, so many more deserve justice. What went and is going on is massively criminal and by some accounts, treasonous. And the slaps on the wrists to the insurrectionists are insulting.

@racocn8 Mueller examined 45's campaign ties with Russia, collusion, so a guilty verdict is much less likely from it than charges from 1/6. Even those, however, could be determined by SCOTUS to be nullified by the fact he was POTUS. Our best shot, IMO, has been in hoping he commits a big crime (like witness tampering) while The Committee smears his name all over the place. That seems to have worked but also shaken out the witnesses necessary to prosecute Dereliction of Duty.

@rainmanjr
Much less likely? This is all they should have needed.

No one wants that fuckin' piece of shit to suffer more than me, but I just can't believe he'll ever be held accountable after everything else we've ever seen him get away with. I'm firmly in the 'I'll believe it when I see it' camp.

@ChestRockfield I understand. It's pretty hard to believe this nation will do anything productive but we do have a track record for those who steal from the rich (and he has done that). In any event, Zen instructs me to not dwell in the future and I try to adhere to that so I hold no opinion on whether he will pay or not. I merely try to stay away from definitive statements (such as he will or won't) and wait. I also try to stay out of the past but the slow pace makes it hard to do that. This is partly what meditation is for.
