Trump just announced the US recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Holy shit, Syria, Iraq, now we need to ignite a new fire in the Palestinian conflict.

He may have just destroyed the US's ability to be any kind of arbiter for a possible peace treaty/2 state settlement. As to this recognizing 'the reality on the ground' just look at how the Palestinians and the rest of world are reacting. We are enabling Netanyahu's expansionist policies.

I think few people are aware that the United Nations, in 1947 as part of its proposal to partition Palestine, proposed making Jerusalem an international city under the administration of the United Nations itself. Regardless of the rest of the partition plan, I think this part of it would have been a good idea, and the basic idea of essentially making Jerusalem independent still has merit.

"PART III
City of Jerusalem
A. SPECIAL REGIME
The City of Jerusalem shall be established as a corpus separatum under a special international regime and shall he administered by the United Nations. The Trusteeship Council shall be designated to discharge the responsibilities of the Administering Authority on behalf of the United Nations."

It pains me to say this, but Trump did the right thing (even a broken clock is right twice a day). It's actually been US policy since 1995 that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and the president have had the option to delay acknowledging it or doing anything about it in the name of national security. I have several friends who are Israeli and to them Jerusalem is their capital, no if, ands or butts. Between 1948 and 1967, Jordan control the old city and desecrated many Jewish landmarks, so their track record is not promising. In addition, many Arab governments, along with the Palestinians, constantly try to refute the historic Jewish presence in Israel and particularly in Jerusalem. Trump's timing is highly questionable, but ultimately it will be seen is the right thing to do.

There are a lot of folks in this country that want Armageddon in their lifetimes. As a former Jehovah’s Witness and knowing a lot of evangelicals I know that this move, they believe will set the stage for that final war.

Now we are just waiting for a giant bomb about to explode in the middle east.

I wonder how long it will take before some jihadist walks into the new embassy and blows himself apart. Good choice Trumpy.

The right and extreme right of the US is spoiling for more wars, and it'll get them.

This sort of sticking our nose in everyone else's business is what makes the rest of the world hate us.
This is the kind of thing that makes me laugh and cringe when I hear people saying the US is the greatest country in the world.

Well, of course. He needs a distraction from the special council investigation and what's more distracting than starting a war?
