The night of October 31st / November 1st is a Christian religious event in which all worshippers are called upon to tend the graves of the dead and to hold an all night vigil praying for their souls. The following day, All Souls Day (All Saints day) is a reflective day of rest, to recover from the strain of the all night prayer vigil. (or certainly a very late, intense prayer vigil).
All Hallows evening, Hallowe'en, is therefore, for Christians, meant to be a serious night of religious respect for the dead.
However, it has now become an evening of fun and frolics which makes a mockery of the dead, with virtually no-one tending to their memory.
So tell me. How can those who publicly purport to be devoted Christians actually organise and participate in Hallowe'en parties?
It smacks to me of religious hypocrisy.
Why not ask any Evangelists you may know to explain?

It seems a weird place to be picky but:

November 1st is All Saints/Hallows
November 2nd is All Souls

Growing up in CT and being raised Roman Catholic had a profound impact on me and my sister's. The opposition caused by Christianities contradictions, and what was later learned to be outright theft from Paganism was on full display every month of the year. As we became more mature "thinking adults"...the history and truth of what the celebrations were REALLY about became apparent. I drifted off toward an Agnostic and eventual Atheistic stance. One younger sister became a devout Buddhist, and my youngest sister later in in life became an Ordained Lutheran Minister. Family gatherings were avoided because of a mother who feared free thought as, "the work of the Devil". You could see the fear in her eyes when she opened the door for the hundreds of "Trick or Treaters". Her fear was palpable. It was paralyzing to her. It further confused her as November 1 was "All Saints Day". Christmas even though it was "celebration of a birth" was hollow for her. It meant she had to start preparing her mind for the dreaded "death of Christ" and "the resurrection fairy tale. To mom it was never-ending. One sad, scary, disappointment and fable after another with the hope that death could be cheated by praying to Jesus Jalapeno(on a steke😂). I was the biggest disappointment...agnostic then Athiest. My sister Eileen the Buddhist(and schoolteacher who was loved by her students😀) being the second disappointment and even my youngest sister Edwina...the Lutheran Minister...mom resented her education level and the fact she had rejected the Roman Catholic doctrine. I think if I have learned anything, it is that LIFE is basically a Library of FACT, FICTION, ART and constantly evolving rules. We all have Library Cards but not all of us use them. What we are now witnessing is an ignorant faction that are trying to BURN THE LIBRARY TO THE GROUND. For thousands of years Religions have stolen from humanity and attempted to rewrite history...it continues to this day. It is our responsibility to see that doesn't happen. Celebrate our HISTORY...celebrate our UNIQUE DIFFERENCES...celebrate LIFE...Death is part of Life. You can't have one without the other...otherwise life is meaningless...Happy Halloween.

They are, at their core, hypocrites.
Whether they realize it or not.
They generally aren't the most self-aware of beings either.

Generally holidays are a combination of different cultures and traditions that have been heavily commercialized.

Holidays have become so commercialized that there is a separation between the religious aspect and the commercial aspect. People no longer get it.

I remember a time when Christian were dead against Halloween. Now they more accepting of dark and light sides of life. I don't take anything too seriously accept getting more joys out of life.

I do agree. It totally is hypocrisy, but it is also candy 🙂 I had those same thoughts when I was an xian, but candy. Some churches do try to clean it up a bit, but still - candy. I don't participate any longer, I don't turn on my porch light and I block my sidewalk. Mostly I have to go down a flight of stairs to my front door several times a night. I don't want to have candy in the house, it is too tempting for me.

@Gwendolyn2018 I don't have that much control, it might not make it through the night.

Nobody gives a flying fuck about evangelicals and their bullshit. Fuck them all.

For the Evangelicals the modern idea is to let kids know you can have fun on Halloween. They think having these gatherings keeps kids safe and off the streets and might even make them get serious about their Christianity. I personally am no longer involved in any of it. I'm so cheap these days that I don't even offer food for the dead. 🙂

Like most "Christian" holidays they took over Samhain a Celtic tradition featuring jack-o-lanterns. As for not making food offerings for dead family, get a couple of McDonald's Happy Meals..

My brother used to have a blow out Halloween party every year because his birthday is around that time. One year he was working with a bunch of Japanese pilots (he worked for a major aircraft company). He invited them all but only a few came because others in the company explained to them the religious aspect to it. It was a shame because the ones who did attend had a great time.
