I’m starting to feel guilty about how easily overly optimistic people get on my nerves.

No. I’m sorry Sunshine. There aren’t “so many beautiful reasons to be happy.” for me. I’m about to lose my house, be unrmployed, I’m single with no kids, most of my family is dead and people like you avoid me because I don’t believe in your fairy tales!
Sometimes life is just shitty and covering shit with pretty memes doesn’t help anyone!

OK Rant Over!

I'm sorry for your pain. Life sometimes hurts. Problems seem overwhelming. Sometimes it gets better for a while; then sometimes it gets hard again. Being 64, I am starting to see that "This too shall pass." I also have little patience for the constant Sunshine personality. I tend to avoid people like that because, in my opinion, they sometimes have little depth of feeling or thought.

I understand your feelings. I had the same dilemma about a decade ago. I lost a house and job, coupled with health problems that may have stemmed from the stress of what I was going through. I always liked what Churchill said: "when going through hell, keep going!" Life can be shit at times. My favorite sarcastic song for those occasions is "Life Is Shit" by the Dead Milkmen:

I think pessimism and optimism can both be a bit much. I'm a realist. Realists see things how they really are and don't sugarcoat things. They don't pretend all is well when all is not well and try to find solutions rather than pretend everything is alright. Optimists are overrated and overrepresented in our society if you ask me. Instead of irrational negativity they're irrational and positive about it. If that's what you mean, then welcome aboard.
