Self-Imposed time out feature.

Okay, this may seem like an odd request so bear with me.
I'm prone to online addiction. I know this about myself as it comes to social media and social video games. Anywhere I can get my "fix" of talking, viewing or participating on topics I love (science, philosophy, video games, etc) I will be distracted into doing.

Now, recently I was studying for finals and, because I was losing focus, I found myself logging on, talking, logging on, not talking, logging on, ad nausieum and using up time and even more focus.

Now, the feature request I propose is a self-time out button. The feature could be set from 1 day to 1 week during which time I would not be able to log in for whatever reason. This is MY choice to be used during times when I know I shouldn't log on, work, play, study, whatever, and yet I find myself compelled to do so.

I don't know if anyone else thinks this is a good feature or not. Others likely have more self control than I do or work on the computer less than I do. (I teach online among other things so the site is never too far away.) I don't know if this is a technical problem, if it could bring other problems with it, like permanent lockout or total account loss. I don't know if you even want people taking a time out but would rather we use the system as much as possible ala Zuckerberg.

But it would be of great benefit when I KNOW I should take a time out... but the allure of just one more conversation is too strong!

Hahaha! Actually I think that sounds like a pretty fucking good feature! I fall prey to the same bullshit myself. I do this too. I know I'm not supposed to do it. I know I'm supposed to be using that time allotted me to do something important with it. I know that I'm not adhering to those principles a vast majority of the time. It would be nice to have something that could slap me on the hand and say, like, fuck you Ari. Kind of like a lock on the refrigerator so you don't eat snacks in the middle of the night, right? You should invent this! Does it exist?

Personilty i think it better to focus on self control. Like all addictions people will find ways around it. It like a drug addiction addict don't stop until they are ready to control there life.
Find other things to do in life .

@TheMiddleWay People do it ever day
