It wasn't me I have a wallaby... I mean an alibi.

Is that a wallaby in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

@zorialoki I think it might be an Anaconda with a mind of its own ?

@Hitchens or a garter snake only wanting to get out

@zorialoki Either way he doesn't get out nearly enough. The snake must have some military training because it stands to attention on demand ???

It is stress. Loss of habitat, dogs, cars.
I do wildlife rescue, so many are infected, often worms, and a koala equivalent of HIV.
Given their particular diet, koalas do not just eact any old gum tree, they must move from tree to tree. On one hell they may eat tallow, 50 metres away they won't touch it and need brushbox. Then fighting for resources and mates among themselves, nowhere to live, no food, getting blinded by light, savaged by dogs. Clock up another trophy kill for mankind.

Sad, it really is. I think almost everyone loves koala. What the hell is a brush box?

@zorialoki Sorry, tallow and brush box are species of eucalypti. There are over 700 species, koalas do not eat all of them, and not all koalas will eat the same trees in the same areas and they change from week to week. It is very hard to keep food up to those in care.

@Rugglesby Well a brush box wasn't as titillating as I thought it might be

John Oliver to the rescue...

@Wangobango3, do you really think he did? I sure hope not.

@Wangobango3 very disappointing. But, Oliver's a talented guy, and ambitious, I think he'll be back in one capacity another in the future.

The Outback...where men are men and koala run scared? Actually I have no idea. But they must be frisky little buggers.

& that's usually biologically a good thing, unless there is a deadly STD epidemic going on!

The Aussie's or the koala?

@zorialoki rumor has it...BOTH! 😀

That's so sad! They could still treat them with something natural..not an antibiotic.

A few examples:

Goldenseal
Alternative Medicine Review: berberine, found in goldenseal demonstrates ability to fight viruses and bacteria, including chlamydia. Also, in a clinical study, chlamydia of the eye was cured, with no relapses, even one year after treatment with eye drops made from berberine.

Echinacea
Widely used by generations as a remedy, echinacea is highly effective against STDs, including gonorrhea and chlamydia.

Olive Leaf Extract
It contains oleuropein, a strong anti-microbial that has been found in studies to destroy bacteria that causes gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis.

Provided the animals respond and don't die of poison. What works on one species may kill another

I'm pretty sure that none of those treatments have proven effective. There is a reason that it is called alternative medicine. If it were proven it would just be medicine.

First bats, now koalas, I am afraid to ask what is next.

That would be us

@Blindbird Especially after the bees

@Blindbird No, we'll surely take a few more before it's our turn!

It doesn't help that male koalas fight a lot and get open wounds and females mate with many males. This makes it easy for chlamydia to spread. The disease was originally picked up by koalas from sheep and cattle............ but the mind boggles as to where the sheep and cattle got it from in the first place.

Australia, where men are men and sheep are scared
