The Portland Oregon area has the lowest church attendance of any major city in the U.Sj.

@Palacinky There is a culture of extremes. There are a lot of what I refer to as rabid Christians, but they are a very small minority. They are greatly outspoken because they feel that because the area has so many atheists, they thinkthey are somhow beign persecuted..

As for the radio stations, the rural areas all around Portlan dare more conservative, and the programming is often syndicated, so there are actualy very few local broadcasts. Same with thereligious UHF TV stations. All they need are enoug stupid peopel to send money to make it worth while to broadcast here.

Come to UK, I have literally never been asked that in my life here.

Religion is not an issue in Australia either, but socially and politically the US is very screwed up.

I’m living that delima. Got spoiled with rural life, having grown up urban. But living rural leaves one basically surrounded by churchers.. My local’s considered a little hippy town, but many of those folks are only a step from institutional religion with their crystal worship and yoga meditation…

I’ll visit an actual city, and intelligent women galore, even their bumper stickers! I try not to stare 😀 But what a price ..the air stinks, traffic’s a nightmare, people seem throw-away, light & noise pollution, no privacy or wilds … makes returning to pastures, forests and a-church-on-every-block worth the relative isolation 😕

Varn Level 8 May 12, 2018

I'm with you 100% @Varn. Living in the beautiful WV mountains without noise, traffic, crime... enjoying clean air, good water, dark skies and the sounds of the wind in the trees! But no intelligent women. Religion and ignorant Red-state politics is the norm. The "locals" have horrible food & health habits and the women stopped taking any care of themselves at the moment of their first pregnancy, with irreversible results. For a well-off introvert sitting on a hill with wonderful dogs, online work and plenty to do, it's OK, but then sometimes one wishes for a partner to share all this beauty.... sigh.

I go to church all the time! Gluttonous Church (Denny's), Manly Church (Home Depot), and Swedish Church (IKEA).

Heavy on the acceptance and rebirth, light on the Jesus just like I like it.

LOL

Well, Jesus was a carpenter - or so I'm told - so he would be outstanding assembling a flat pack IKEA product for you 🙂

Frustrating to say the least

Come to Australia....... no-one gives a toss about policing Christianity here! But if you're a refugee, black, female, disabled, Muslim, old, homeless, gay, lesbian, transgender or Aboriginal, the discrimination is appalling. It helps a lot to be a banker or executive in a multinational corporation too because that's where most of our politicians came from and you'll definitely get a leg up!

I could not have said it any better.

All that said, Australia is cool...

@Palindromeman ...... and that from a Canberra man!!! Have fun with all the Nevs......

@Abbelyne I'm splitting my time between Canberra and Goulburn...

I actually looked into moving to there after leaving the Army but I'm a brown skinned person named Kashif and it was brought to my attention that may pose a problem lol. Also I'm a gamer and video game prices there are insane. Plus the internet plans.

@Palindromeman @Abbelyne You've got a handle on the discrimination problem in Australia. We need a real change of politics.

@Palindromeman, @Kashif Sorry you felt sensitive about moving to Australia for reasons of colour Kashif. We don't all support such banal discrimination though.

@Chippie If nothing else, you and your children (if you have any) are unlikely to be shot here. So, there's that. On the other hand, the wildlife wants to kill you. Especially the hoop snakes.

@Palindromeman I'm not familiar with hoop snakes.

@Abbelyne Very deadly. They put their tail in their mouth and roll down a slope. A very effective hunting strategy.

Where you live has great weather, so maybe you'll meet someone compatible here.
Or maybe move to AZ?

Arizona Navada were my in my top five before moving to San Antonio. There back on the list.

@Kashif Arizona is where all the nuclear bomb testing has been carried out for decades. You'd want to check out the background levels of radiation before living there.

You need to tell her that you go to the agnostic church. I met a mennonite priest and he asked me what religion I was. When I told him I was an agnostic he said that he did not know that religion, whereby I told him to google it. He was happy. See, it is so easy.

3

Best to get that sorted out right away before you go too far.

True. It's just disheartening that I think I've met one lady who was okay with me being agnostic and while that wasn't a issue we just weren't super compatible.

Well, don't bother with Kansas, unless it is one of the few liberal strongholds, like Lawrence. Lot of fundamentalist types in this state. However, I was born here and although I lived in other states for a while, came back here almost 40 years ago and settled into a job and lifestyle. By the time I retired I had paid of my house, have a small circle of friends, am within 2 hours of my son/grandkids and the cost of living here is pretty reasonable so moving isn't a real consideration, although I do miss some of the places I used to live.
As for religion, I just don't talk about it much around here. If I get that level 8 t-shirt, it could cause a small fire-storm around here when I wear it in public. 😮 Think I'll do it anyway, just to stir things up. 😀
