Oscar Levant, Van Johnson, and Donald O'Connor -- the three best movie stars EVER. Those were my childhood crushes.
Of course I also love, love, love Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly too.
As for the women....probably Leslie Caron, Judy Garland, Myrna Loy, and Cyd Charrise

Robert Mitchum!!! YES!!! That's another one for me!
I'm not sure whether Michelle Pfeiffer qualifies, considering that she's still relevant and attractive today, but she's one of my favorites. Also, as others have said, Lauren Bacall, who had such poise and style and beauty, in addition to being such a great actress.
As for males, Humphrey Bogart had a certain quality I liked, a confidence in his presence, a quiet charm. And Kirk Douglas showed such masculinity in his roles, a real tough-guy persona, the sort of guy who seemed to be the quintessential "man's man."

Male: Laurence Harvey (Manchurian Candidate) (altho there's another BIG name & I can't recall him atm, also Perry King- Mandingo)
Female: Garbo, Garbo, Garbo... 
(altho I deliberately rocked Veronica lake hair when younger) Included, a graphic'd 34y.o. me doing my VL impression in a photobooth. That used to stick out amongst my goth/fetish friends...
Robert Duvall was always hot AF to me too... especially young...drools
