Hello everyone. I am currently having some health issues. I hope it's nothing serious but I have to wait for the blood test result
Many religious people I know (including my parents) say that this is my punishment for not being religious and living a "life of sin". My mother also tells me I should pray and ask god for forgiveness if I want to be healthy. All this makes me feel even worse ??

Best wishes for a speedy recovery and sending positive vibes your way.

So, God is a sadistic bully?
I'm sure it's really tough having those you love and maybe depend on say crazy stuff like that.
It's not true, you know.

As all these responses have shown that your perspective on your health issues is just fine. I see that you are fairly young but please find some support, whether here, someplace else online or some folks in person. Please find a way to take care of yourself so this guilt tripping from your friends and family gets minimized. Do what you need to do. Peace

I'm sorry that your parents care more for their religion. That being said: the power of positive thinking (and in the religious -- prayer) can have an affect on health. I like meditation. Whether I'm happy or sad or whatever, it centers me. Follow your heart. Don't hate your parents.

When you think religious people should be more compassionate and supportive...... Sorry they are not helping. That being said, it's up to you if you want to let them bring you down. Hope you will get well and I hope that should be enough encouragement for you to proved them wrong

This infuriates me. I think that if someone were to have said that to me about my health condition I would've literally bit their head off. Literally. Kind of like Ozzy Osbourne biting the head off of a bat.

sorry they add being a bummer to an already difficult situation. Just imagine them dancing the Bite the Lawango Tango

I'm terribly sorry you have to deal with crap from relatives on top of having health issues. I hope you have friends who are there for you, and actually help you feel better. Take care of yourself.

I am so sorry that you have to deal with a support system that is not supportive. Hope you have others to lean on in this difficult time in your life. Victim blaming? Medical issues are medical issues Factual and not having to do with ethics. Good luck. lol I don't beleive in luck either.

Funny how they all seem to forget the "judge not lest you be judged" part of the Bible. Conveniently.

I had a friend, religious (but not obnoxiously), nicest person in the world. She died of an aggressive form of colon cancer at 53. I'm sorry, but all their pronouncements are bullshit. "Good Christians" die every day, at all ages, and nothing can stop that. There's no 200 year old religious people out there; we all die around the same average age.

What really bothers me is the implied smugness of the people telling you this, an "I guess this will show THEM!" attitude. They are taking a small bit of pleasure out of this.

I know you can't chose your relatives, and I'm sorry you have to go through this nonsense. But really the best thing to do is stay away from these people.

I'm sorry for your situation. Just remember though -and feel free to remind people if you care to- that pious people get sick too. Meanwhile, surround yourself with people who will have empathy and compassion for you without having to pass a religious test.
I hope your bloodwork comes back without any major issues.

Seek professional medical help. From a religious perspective, G-d has provided resources to help yourself. To not seek help ignores the grace of G-d. The shortcoming of faith-based relief is that it is a passive hope for a miracle.

2

I'm so sorry you're going through this. If your critics' opinions had any validity, the world would be a much better place. No religious people would ever get sick or experience tragedy. Anybody who was prayed over would be healed. Religion doesn't change the course or frequency of illness. Feel free to mention to your parents all their religious friends who get cancer and such.

2

Hopefully the test brings you good news.

Positive mental attitude is important when facing any health challenge, as for the religious assholes at least you know who has your back and who doesn't because they aren't helping. Be Well and ignore the haters with their hateful imaginary friend.

2

Just tell them that your health problems are due to their gods plan.

2

Take care and I wish you well. It is hard to turn off the voices of those around you especially family. Wonder what they would say the reason would be if one of them got sick..... Oh wait, I know, they would say god is just testing their religious strength like he did to Job

Thank you ❤
Yes of course, they would always find an excuse.

2

I hope you feel better. I knew I was an atheist when I realized I wouldn't pray to god if I got cancer. I wouldn't want to worship a god who lets starving children die but this god is going to help me.

You are right. To many bad things happen in this world, why would god help me personally?

Wow, i remember one born again telling a co worker she got MS because she sin. Hope your health issues get better. Hope you find people that are not going to go all old testment on you.

1

Whilst they are talking, paste on a big smile that looks like a "Yes O.K" and inside, make your own plans to get weller. Keep saying 'yes' because eventually it shuts them up .

Religious people can often be the most judgemental, and often victim blame. If there were any stock to what they said, religious people would never get disease.

Well, forget that shit and if possible keep a distance from such negativity. Praying may be a good placebo but only if you believe in it. Also the statement implies that all religious people, because they don't 'sin' and they pray regularly must be super fit and have no health issues, no allergies, never get headaches or toothaches, the list goes on...I doubt you will find one of these Super-People in any religious house in the world. Perhaps the next time she gets a cold you could ask her to pray it away and stop whining! I hope the blood tests come back okay. Let us know how you get on. And illness has nothing to do with god. Its bacteria, virus and maybe even genetic. So if there is something of a genetic basis your dear ole parents gave it too you! Not sin or being non-religious.

1

Fuck your family. Anyone that does that link of bullshit deserves to Not be in your life. Positive thoughts and vibes being sent your way!

1

I hope you don't believe that and I feel sorry for anyone with health issues who believes that. Can you imagine being sick and believing that? I am recovering from minor surgery and have heard all the "holier than me" "supportive" notifications that others have been praying for me. So sick of it. My mother drove me around, wrapped my arm so I could take showers, cooked for me, played Scrabble with me to keep me sane... and she prayed for me, which she is somehow convinced is the important part.

I wish the best for you, but I am also here with an ear of you need to talk, because that's the little real support I can offer.
