Newbie question. I've received about four emails from people who say they are "greeters" and if I have any questions, to ask them. Is this a customary thing on this site, or should I beware? Thanks.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm relieved that this is an actual thing. I can't think of any other site I've been on that had anyone as much as say hello and welcome.

New here also. I'd like an awesome to this question as well.

I assume because a lot of new subs leave during the first week and they’re lured back by the email notifications of inbox messages. It’s an old trick. Doesn’t bother me though.

Yes, I knew of it. I think it is a nice gesture to be welcomed when joining a whole new forum where others have become settled and familiar. I am not a greeter, I think a new member receiving a welcome message from me would be like answering a knock on your door to find the grim reaper standing there.

I have never received one, but have been asked to be one.

Yes, we send them out for long-time active members who have signed up to be "greeters" and are also live on the website (measured by time from last web or app page load). We send no more than 4 and only in the first week. Greeters can also turn this feature off or on at anytime.
