Doctor Who. The new series, that is.

I like the Tom Baker Dr. Who.

Im old enough to remember the original 60s series. That soundtrack was phenomenal especially as it was pre-Moog synthesizer or any of our electronic gadgets, just tape machines.

As far as far as that goes, plug in any 60's Irwin Allen show score.

Many greats mentioned. I'll add a few that i like.

  • Twin Peaks. Legendary S1! The whole show is right down the alley for many people on this site as the series is a bit out there, and in addition it most likely has followers who can be called a cult. Anyway, Angelo Badalamenti and David Lynch did an awesome job. Series has an instrumental for the opening, but the Julee Cruise version is even better.
  • True Detective. I prefer S1, but S2 is also great.
  • True Blood. I lost interest in this show after a few seasons, but it was great in the start. When Maryann Forrester makes, and serves, Hunter Souffle In season 2. They eat, fuck and beat on each other. That shit is sick! Just sick! I think she was the most scary of them all. Forget all the other creatures, That Maryann Forrester was scary!

Love these! True Blood was great for the first season. Then it got worse and worse and omg I can't believe I'm still watching this shit but it's like a train wreck and I can't look away!!

@Remi Agreed. (I personally noped out when the witches got on and it was like a menopausal version of The Craft.) But the question was about soundtracks, not the actual show...

The original Hawaii Five-O, and going back to the 50’s, Rawhide was a good track, Frankie Lane sang the theme song, was also a pretty big hit. Bonanza also had a good soundtrack.

Kicking it Old School Style:

And how could I forget this?

I give big props to Fox's Peter Pan & the Pirates, for a low budget morning cartoon it had a score that would've suited Erroll Flynn's best performance.

I love the CSI use of the Who but my mind goes back to the 70`s and this very simple moody sequence. The show was called Callan. Edward Woodward played the lead and he was very much the same character he played in the Equalizer. Younger and much more cynical working for MI5 as a hitman.

Kids in the hall- theme song

It has to be Black Beauty from the 70s or 80s. The accompanying imagery is beautiful too. Unfortunately the show itself was mind numbingly boring garbage.

Uh....... How about Mr. Roger's Neighborhood.

I always liked the music used in Sopranos and their "theme" song is still part of my play list......

Westworld is making me very happy right now

I loved the intro song for the first True Detective series. It was Far From Any Road by The Handsome Family. Shudder!

I enjoyed the live performances on HBO's Treme. Also, I don't know when the trend started (The Sopranos?), but I like how series use different songs that play over closing credits on weekly episodes. Does that only happen on cable shows? Haven't watched a network show in ages. I've gotten in the habit of having my Shazzam app at the ready to learn what I'm hearing if it strikes my fancy.

You misspelled True Blood/WKRP in Cincinnati.

With bonus points to True Blood for having the most perfect opening credit sequence ever.

Honorable mention to Dear White People for consistently awesome music.
