I'ts fascinating to realise that the song "When A Child Is Born" is not really a Xmas song even though it can easlier be and is used as such. This song is simply celebrating the birth of a child , any child , anywhere, someplace , sometime. The tiny star lighting up way up on high could easily be seen as the 'Star of Bethlehem' , but it's a common idea that a new star appears at every birth of a new child. I love the version that the Seekers (an Australian group) did with it. The words are beautiful.

It's also a funny connection because if Jesus had loved, he would have been born around April, not december.

It cracks me up when people think of the song hallelujah by Leonard Cohen as being religious or Christmas related. In a way it is, but several of the lyrics are clearly sexual.

Yes, very much sexual, and very much not about a religious experience (despite having plenty of religious symbolism). "It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah" doesn't exactly convey a sense of joyful worship.

Best version.

I'm not sure I'd ever heard this song before. I'm listening right now to Johnny Mathis singing it. I agree that it doesn't really strike me as a Christmas song, but I understand how it could be coopted as such. Thanks for sharing.
