I think I've been single too long y'all. My uber driver tonight was a very handsome Venezuelan man. Despite him saying his english was terrible we had a really good conversation on the 10 minute drive. I was REALLY tempted to give him my number. He's working though so I thought best not to. What do you think?

Next situation, you could say 'hey, it was great talking with you! Are you free to meet up over coffee sometime?' From that you know if he's available (but not if he's single).

If he says 'yes' I, personally, would ask for his #. Two reasons: 1. it's your invite and you can control it and 2. as a women, just a precaution not to give out any personal information until there's trust.

Sane advice

You need to go on another ride~!

I really didn't want to vote "give him the #" but there wasn't one which said
[] "ask for his # so you can ask for him, next time you need a ride"

This one!!!!

10

LOL! Seriously, I think there's nothing wrong with giving your # if you're comfortable doing so.

8

Nothing wrong with slipping him your number. Grab opportunities when they arise.?

8

I'm figuring you're going to need a ride somewhere pretty soon. good conversation is hard to come by.

7

Life is short and full of mistakes. Why not take a leap and see if one of those mistakes works out?

7

Nothing ventured, nothing gained! Definitely should have given it to him.

It's not inappropriate to hit on someone on the job if you feel a mutual connection and/or they are going beyond their job description to communicate with you.

I drive for Uber. We are supposed to be engaging conversationalists. There are videos from the company about how to do it, and we can get special badges from riders if we are good at it.

@CraeftSmith oh I need to give that guy a badge !

I feel like I make mistakes all the time. I assume every woman isn’t interested in me. I start with that framework.

That probably is a mistake. My experience, and what I have been told by women, is to never hit on women at work

@CraeftSmith. Generally that is correct and it is I hesitated. Someone who is working is in an uncomfortable position if they turn a customer down.

Aww @Lancinator you're adorable! Unless you happen to be a total jerk, You shouldn't assume women aren't interested.

@Blindbird yeah I’m not the aggressive type. Every gf I’ve had has made it clear to me.

never miss an opportunity

I've given my number to a cashier at a store. He called. ?
It's inappropriate to give your number to a customer, not the other way around. Unless, of course, you're in a massage clinic or at the gynecologist office. ?

No way. The employee is in an uncomfortable spot if the attention is unwelcome. Personally if Someone hits on me while I'm working I automatically write them off as a creeper.

@Blindbird I wouldn't go so far as to say no way. I was my first husbands waitress when we met. Every one is different. So what if he writes her off. He wouldn't have the option to say yes OR no if she didn't hand him her number.

Move when opportunities present themselves. We only live once.

5

Oh my friend, whatever you do I wish you the best. None of this will matter once we kick the bucket, so follow your heart always with a little bit of common sense. Cheers

Good advice

@Blindbird I mean it when I say that I wish you the best

you don't ask, you don't get

4

As far as I know, it's ok to hit on men while they are working.
I'd never hit on a woman at work unless she was already letting me know it was ok somehow.

3

That type of job he probably gets it a lot and you need to way up the odds . A ) will you be extremely lucky and get a really nice guy . Or b ) get the guy who sleeps around while his wife is at home with the kids

I've been there. Imagination is a cruel thing. We can fill in the gaps with positive fantasies which lead us to think we've denied ourselves a life of happiness.

But in reality we don't know the other person. And I would also think about all the other women who might get in his taxi in the future. Would they be taken by his looks too. Would another phone number be added to his private contacts list?

Male beauty is very powerful. Our culture doesn't acknowledge this for some reason.

Good points.

3

My brother was a cab driver and there are women who phone one just to have sex with the driver. The office gets to know who they are and sends the appropriate guy

2

I'm wondering how different this might have been if he had been an actual taxi driver. Who started and kept that conversation going? Would that have played out in an actual taxi?

He did. Believe it or not I'm actually pretty quiet in those situations. 🙂

@Blindbird I'm usually quiet, too. I suspected he started it. Now... why? 😉

2

That’s pretty funny, actually but I know the feelin exactly! I think it is time to get out more, stretch out of your comfort zone. I am trying some meet ups, etc...

2

Life as they say is too shit and too short - grab any opportunity you can for happiness.

1

You're paying him for the ride and he's relying on you to provide a good rating for his service. You might be reading too much into his good conversation.

Wear the green shorts, there will be more opportunities that manifest themselves.

Lol. Have to shave for that!

@Blindbird well not in France...
