Im gonna make a whole load of people on this site jealous. This is how secular we are in the UK. Today I did a job in a church. As the guy was showing me what he wanted doing etc. I casually talked about Pastor Johns sermon in the royal wedding. To make sure he knew where I was coming from I also mentioned that I was an atheist. He said " Oh well we all have our own views " and left it at that. Bear in mind this was a church not Starbucks or the mall. Eat your heart out bible belt dwellers ha ha.

Another example of a religious leader who was more accepting of the non-religious than might be expected: Sherwin Wine, who was ordained at Hebrew Union College and became rabbi of Birmingham Temple in Detroit, was himself an atheist!

I sort of know what you mean. I live in Massachusetts in the US and we are pretty open minded. I just received an invitation from the local library branch for a story time session for small children. That's not unusual. What caught my eye is the person doing the reading is a drag queen. I really doubt this would happen where my friend lives near Dallas in Texas.

Very cool Kelvin.

From a distance it seems that in general, Europe has a much better perspective on religion.

Yes, I have heard this. Also Canadians are far more secular than we United Statesians. For a country supposedly found on the principle of religious freedom we are a mess.

Lol. Can I move to the UK? I’m smack in the middle of the Bible belt

I know the feeling I am too. It does suck doesn't it?

Not in the bible belt, but I've had a similar experience. Gotta love the no true Scotsman approach though.

When can I move? I live in the heart of the Bible belt. Church on every corner, even next to each other. They pop up like Starbucks in my area

It`s a problem what to do with the disused churches. Most become offices or flats.

@273kelvin Except in London, where fundamentalist African Christian churches are cheek by jowel with each other. Never mind the mosques.

You're cold.

What a wonderful way to live! People with different views not agreeing but respecting each others opinions. Maybe in time, we here in the US will join our more-tolerant friends in the UK.

Yeah maybe when our country is 900 year old

@Omen6Actual True. They've got their problems for sure and the UK is not Utopia for sure. My response was only to the seemingly tolerant view of atheism in their society.

@Omen6Actual Well if your going to believe Fox news propaganda. Then YOU are responsible for school shootings. By not wanting prays in schools, You dangerous heathen

@AmelieMatisse You are probably right, AmelieMatisse.

@SamHarrisFan I agree and Canada is also very tolerant

@Omen6Actual You seem to be very badly informed and opinionated at the same time. It's not a good combination.

I’m so jealous!

I wished it were a little more like that here in Oklahoma but but the Christain’s in general are a lot better people than the foul mouthed left wing, Obama loving, Trump bashing, gun grabbing idiots on the main forum of this website.

well it's good to see you practicing tolerance at least (cough).
