Seeing supposedly religious people support tRump has made me incredibly angry. I want to live in a world where being kind is more important than being right and where making sure everyone has a place to live and food to eat is more important than enriching the already rich

I don’t recall religion ever having such influence (negative) on american politics. Our “political leaders” use Christianity (bible) as their guide in making decisions from healthcare, welfare and warfare. The last thing trump considers is kindness, personal gains, tax reduction for the top 2% being his only interest.
A socialistic way of life sounds utopian, but it’s so close to what would make America better again.

I suppose I could call myself a 'socialist'- but there has to be one qualification- it must be 'responsible socialism'. Anyone too lazy to work, at a 'just wage', are too lazy to eat. Having said that, it is long past the time, when the fat greasy slobs, in their hundreds of dollar shirts and thousands of dollar shoes, represented by the likes of Trump, world-wide, were stopped.

@Diogenes we have socialist fascism for the rich and desperately poor with workers in the middle robbed of their productivity on both ends. ...paid less so bosses get the most AND TAXED by corrupt theocrats exempting religious fraud from all taxes BORROWING 20 TRILLION saddling future workers with crushing debt enriching banksters and polluter oil war crime profiteering

@GreenAtheist good morning. I am in Canada. Many years ago, my former 'true-love' in Nederland said, "You complain about the crooks in Canada, but it is happening all over the world." She made a wise move though, social services in Holland are some of the best in the world. -----I have read that Trump's tax break for the rich will add $1.5 trillion (another way to look at that number $ one thousand, five hundred billion) to the US debt in 10 years

We could tax the church the way they do their sheeple.

It is insane that we are letting them support candidates and raise money for them but we don't tax them

Yep, but the "sheeple" should be charged 'more' taxes because they are "sheeple". I have seen pictures of cows being trucked to the slaughter house- even they do not go willingly.

I asked a very religious acquaintance how he could possibly support Trump given how he his and his reply was that "Sometimes God uses imperfect people to achieve his perfect plan."

Considering he doesn't like the current pope, I asked if that applied to him as well but apparently in the pope's case, he's just not a real Catholic or man of God.

You seriously can't make this kind of denial up.

Last night PBS had the film about David 'Karesh' (sp). It fit in with the remark by your acquaintance, about "imperfect people". And we 'sure as hell', LOL, have enough imperfect people around now. I have no interest in religion or popes. But I think that some South American Catholics practice Liberation Catholicism, which does service to the poor. Cardinal Oscar Romero was murdered because he wouldn't suck up to the hierarchy in El Salvador. And possibly I am naïve, but I do believe that the current pope is a humanist; he has seen the poverty around him in Argentina.

@Diogenes both living popes covering up evidence of rapist priests belong in prison NOT ADMIRATION

@GreenAtheist All religions have a very long history of evil. I would not want to be the person that had to wrestle the multi headed evil out of the Catholic Church.

It is sickening to see this happen in our country. We all have to send a message on January 20th to Washington.

5

tRump is a planned distraction while the fascist republican regime that has taken over our government feed like hogs at the trough. We are feeding these pigs. Their only interest is in enriching themselves and the corporate machine as much as possible. They are destroying all the parts of government that serve and help the other 99% of us. Like all great societies and countrys throughout mankind’s history, we have passed our zenith and are self-destructing from greed.

5

That is the dream, but not for the US with the current administration. I was single payer health care, basic guaranteed income, no child going hungry, free public education, an unbiased legal system.

5

I read this morning that there are 41 million people living in poverty (tents, under tarps) in the US ---- and POTUS is doing as much as 'it' can to make the situation worse, by withdrawing health care. Giving the tax breaks to the rich, which will increase the American debt, and this debt increase will be paid for by the poor.

And Roy Moore blithering about god-dude, none stop! And the godsters think the Moslems are crazy!

Just wait until this wealth shift ‘tax plan’ starves our social services. There’s a reason the religious-republicans have stockpiled guns and provisions and set up compounds outside of cities, they’ve planned for war ~

Unfortunately, kindness is less of a motivator than hate. Does kindness compel people to vote on a cold november weekday, or irrational fears preached at them daily for years?

My fear is that kind people become complacent, avoid confrontation, as they focus on enjoying life. Leaving the less intelligent and easily manipulated (the minority they are) to spend their waking hours undermining advancement because it rattles the status quo… To do good we must unite against evil ~

I think we've reached the stage where we understand that if we don't find a way to get the 46% out of their armchairs we're doomed. We need to be militantly for protecting those that need it. We need to define the argument better and stop letting those in power lie

@Thoughtfuljenny A nice sentiment but I have encountered so many whose thought process has been damaged by religion (accepting faith (belief without evidence and in deviance of contradictory evidence)) that demonstrate they are not able to accept demonstrable fact based reality superseding their imagination view of what they want to believe leaving them largely unable to appreciate what is happening and unable to change. I have limited hope that "We" can "define the argument better" to enlighten the tRumpsters to recognize they are being lied to because, like faith, (accepting as truth (things that can be demonstrated) without demonstrable facts, they are conditioned to ignore lies.

The government under trump has caused so many problems it will take years to repair. Just today he insults China and expects them to aide with Korea. How stupid can one be! He has appointed money contributors to posts that they are not qualified for.He has Taken steps to stop research in science and medicine,he is ruining our National Parks, hurting the poor weak old and middle class with his tax plan, he is removing regulations that would prevent some of the abuses that banks ,wall Street, real estate and corporations have made; He has made a fool of USA in foreign diplomacy. This all in a few months .I hate to see what further damage he will do in his remaining term!!!!

Every day there is some attack on things that I hold as being the right way. Do read a news briefing every day as a way to know what is going on. (Source is considered unbiased). But put a limit on how much. Work hard at being around rational people doing kind things. Also like making music with others, usually three times a week. Doing things that help keep me happy and sane.

I am not religious any more, but I voted for and support Trump. Do I make you angry. Who is going to pay for everyone to have a place to live and food to eat. What raise my taxes. I have to work to pay my rent and buy my food. It is my responsibility not anybody else.

The irony is, most trump supporters don’t believe in survival of the fittest … they call it evolution 😉

You don't make me angry... it was him or her and he made promises that made him shine.

Come talk to me when you realize you've been had. Do some reading and you will see it that much sooner. If you see this tax bill as taking care of you you have drunk some powerful koolaid and only watched fox fantasy

Bob, ya "Trump made promises that made him shine"- -- but all his promises are lies. If you read between the lines, then he is doing exactly what he said he was going to do

When a person READS BETWEEN THE LINES, Trump is doing exactly what he has done in business and what he is going to do now. He has had four or five 'successful' bankruptcies. Now just how does anyone have a "successful bankruptcy"? He takes Chapter 11, and the investors take the loss. The next one will be the biggie.

Right now the stock market is going wild---- just like it was doing in the summer of 1929, where everybody was getting rich, buying stock on margin. Then in November, came the depression and that stock was worth nothing.

This time it may be much worse than 'just' a financial crisis--- there is a loony with his thumb on the nuke button.

All hail the Trumpenfuhrer.

Never!!

2

If that's the case, it makes no sense for anyone to be a 45 supporter, it makes no sense to be a republican, and it makes no sense to be a religutard.
Every time I hear a trumptard crowing about how well the stock market and their 401Ks are doing, I want to puke. 45 isn't remotely responsible for any of that, yet, his idiot supporters will point to those things as an excuse for their support of him. These are also the same people who want to see an end to the Food Stamp program, public assistance for children and the elderly, and want to penalize kids brought to this country by their parents. Kids who've never known any other home are living under the threat of deportation to countries they don't know.
I honestly don't understand how anyone can still be a republican, or a 45 supporter, or claim to be a "christian", and be okay with the systematic mistreatment of innocent people.

You need to join a Indian tribe, because that's how most tribes worked. They learned to live within their environment and not suck the life out of everything around them. They didn't wallow in their own waste, so they had very few diseases. No homeless or drunks, they put their tribe before themselves. They didn't put people in a cage, because inside their tribe, there were very few crimes.
And we called them savages.

I spent a decade teaching on a Native American reservation and had many elders who were close friends. I could write a book on this subject.

Traditionally, you statement is reflective of the teachings of the past.

Sadly, years ago the US government paid churches to "civilize/educate" (indoctrinate into Christianity) those on Native American reservations. The traditional practices of the past (taking responsibility for your actions, looking out for your tribe as each of you are an important person who's moral duty it was it was to leave for your children a world as good or better then your ancestors left for you, to respect all things in the good world including yourself) were literally beaten out of the children and replaced with (quoted from seminars we (the entire school and school body) attended)

The following quotes are taken directly from products of forced (taken from their Lakota homes when they were young) Catholic boarding school victims who were successfully (civilized into Christianity). When they spoke, (30 years ago) they were very old so their captive Catholic indoctrination took place roughly 90 years go. These are highlights from a month and a half of their school-wide Monday morning lessons.

"You are evil and bad because an evil woman seduced a man into disobeying god and eating a forbidding fruit. This made god angry so you are all sinful and will burn in hell forever unless you come to the church and beg Jesus for forgiveness for your sins."

"The world is an evil place filled with evil and your live here doesn't count. It is only a testing ground until you go to heaven."

My favorite caveat of Christian excrement was, "You will do bad things but that's ok because it's not your fault. You are worthless and powerless because an evil woman listened to the devil and seduced a man into eating forbidden fruit. This angered god who released the devil who is real and living on this earth. The devil has control over you so when you do something bad it is because of the devil. He is much more powerful then you and you will do bad things but that's OK because Jesus died for your sins so all you have to do is just come and beg forgiveness at the church because the church is the only place on earth that is not all evil.

Sadly, many on that reservation drank the Christian "Kool aid." I could go on but this is long enough.

@NoMagicCookie I was talking old school. I didn't think about what we would do to them after we locked them on the worst piece of ground we could find. I think it's sad that back in the day we called them savages. This country would be better off today if we had learned more from them, and taught them less about us.

2

I don't get how you can call yourself "Christian" and support trump. This silly Omarosa woman summed up what trump is all about: revenge. "best revenge, that everyone has to bow to him now he is the most powerful man in the universe." Sounds pretty blasphemous to me, if you have Christ as your teacher/ messiah.

Absolutely

1

They have the right to support Trump as much as you have the right to get angry over said support....

BTW, anger doesn't add to the "kindness" , you mention.

BTW2, I am an Atheist and I voted for Trump.

Can you tell me why?

Let it be said I have a strong opinion about immigration and related issues.

. . Supposedly religious people support tRump? The vast majority of those I know who support tRump clearly fall within the "religious" category. They all base their lives on faith (belief without evidence) and defend their faith belief when confronted with an overwhelming large number of verifiable facts that contradict their faith based claims. Those tRump supporters I know actively proclaim themselves to be "Christian" and defend tRump with the same illogical devotion they attribute to their invisible sky-daddy. As for the implied religious "making sure everyone has a place to live and food to eat. . . " Some of the religious tRump supporters I know advocate such biblically endorsed policies as "kill the gays," etc. When you distil the bible, you find your actions towards your fellow man don't count towards your status of being "saved" (from burning in hell forever). The only rubric that really counts is if you believe and accept as saviour Jesus.

This fun video does a wonderful job of explaining how this works for Christians.

1

Absolutely right on all accounts. It's always vitally important to perform "random acts of kindness" throughout the day/week/month/year.

I nominate you for president!

Part of our problems are related to the myth of human progress. While we have advanced slightly in certain areas of moral sediments, all to often it's because we redefine what things mean. While slavery was abolished, Jim & Jane Crow were born of hate, a poll tax, and separate but equal. And we still have slavery/neo-feudal workers call full time minimum wage no benefits, permanent part time no benefits, and the invisible undocumented.

Just a few years ago some Republicans suggested a two tiered citizenship reminding me of George Orwell's quote- "all animals are create equal, but some animals are more equal than others." Religion as agnostics/atheist, we know dumb down the debate. It allows people to externalize evil- Satan. And creates a false security. Causing us to forget the lessor angels of our nature. For in the end, we are animals, just a few chromosomes away from a chimp. A moral compasses needs to be debated snd reexamined, not assumed. And we must question everything, especially our own assumptions!

1

I think religious people should stay out of the secular world, I mean there going to heaven where it is a land of milk and honey.

1

I can go with being kind. Not nice.

0

They have an agenda or two. Making America a Christian nation and the repeal of Rowe V Wade they are void of honesty.

0

I still do not know how to use this site correctly. Apologies!

Someone mentioned Mark Taylor. I had never heard of Mark Taylor, the supposed "religious prophet"---- I looked him up. Wooooow! Nutter! Planter's Peanuts think they have a lot of nuts- they have 'nothing'. This character has more nuts floating around in that lump atop his neck than Planters will ever have. He is firmly ensconced in the 'Land of Weird'.
