For 4 years I went to two different schools that did an individual pacing system. It was called the ACE program. We sat in cubicles and had a chart system where we had to set goals, (then reach them) All our information came from "paces." Little books the size of a large comic book. All the information was christian based. No classroom, we sat in cubicles; three walls, our backs to the room. Basic subjects. English, maths, "science," history and the bible. If I needed help with anything I had to raise a flag and put it on top of my cubicle. Christian flag was for easy questions for the female monitors, like can I go to the bathroom. An American flag was for the supervisor, (the only man "teacher" ) and was for the harder questions like I can't figure out fractions. We had reward based breaks. The more scripture you memorized the better your grade, (it was also based on completing your goals, written book reports and oral reports) A break as for the utra go getters who did all the requirements, C break for those who almost made the cut, E break, (I mostly got these) and then all break. Memorization of passages ranged from a couple verses to entire chapters, (in the King James version no less!) We wore uniforms of red, white and navy blue and got swats for being naughty or sinful. The uniforms and swats aren't unique but the set up of the system was. Just wondering if anyone else went through this kind of school.

It sounds very odd and strict. I went to a christain high school and it was nothing like that. I hope that system didn't screw you up.

Indoctrination is crazy....I can't imagine your realization and how you feel now about it....

I'm sorry. That sounds terrible. I'd like to swat some parents right now!

Damn, that sounds crazy.

@pepperjones I endured a different hell but that sounds like hell as well.

Jesus I thought I had a tough education in an ultra Catholic Christian Brother's school...but obviously evangelical Protestants were just as nuts. ?

@pepperjones I Don't think they are too fond of Catholics or Athiests...???

@pepperjones they sound like scary people ???

@pepperjones Yes you and I turned out absolutely fabulous in spite of all that! ???

I went to an A.C.E. christian school for six years

@pepperjones went from Third grade to ninth. At the time it was great. Now I wouldn't do it again lol.

@pepperjones
I was at church seven days a week. On Saturday we went door knocking inviting people to church.

@Differentminded ahhhhhhhhhhh!

That sounds horrible!

@pepperjones
Congrats to you for being too strong for them!

At the beginning of Third grade, my parents tried to send me to a christian 'school', instead of the public elementary school I'd been attending. I knew something was wrong when they started passing out the math books, and every word problem was scripture based (David has twelve stones to shoot at Goliath; if he makes the killing hit on the fifth stone, how many stones are left?).

I was miserable, and came home the fourth day in tears - unstoppable, heaving cries. The very next day, I found myself re-enrolled at Dickson Elementary.

My folks may have made a lot of mistakes, but I am grateful every day that they didn't leave me in that hellhole of a 'school'.

Oh wow! I totally went to a Christian school that used Ace for their curriculum. It all sounds very similar except we didn't wear uniforms. This school had no outside play areas so we played in the halls.

Damn Pepper..... that would traumatic to me.

@pepperjones I guess that is what I would have done too but the cubicle still sounds weird to me
