Facebook for the Senior Generation. For those of my generation who do not and cannot comprehend why Facebook exists:
I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook while applying the same principles.
Therefore, every day I walk down the street and tell passers- by what I have eaten, how I feel now, what I have done the night before, what I will do later, and with whom.
I give them pictures of my family, my dog, and of me gardening, taking things apart in the garage, watering the lawn, standing in front of landmarks, driving around town, having lunch, and doing what anybody and everybody does every day.
I also listen to their conversations, give them the "thumbs up" and tell them I like them.
And it works just like Facebook.
I already have four people following me:
Two police officers, a private investigator, and a psychiatrist.

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.Yeah I know some people who actually still don't have a mobile phone. Its infuriating for the rest of us, especially when the same person whinges about being sidelined in our social circles and out of touch.

You will just have to go back to using carrier pigeons, semaphore flags, signal fires and smoke or morse signals.
Facebook relies on the anal retention within all of us. It really works well if you do enough thumbs up or likes. Jesus uses Facebook and he waits for enough responses in likes before he does anything about prayer.
NO, I am not serious here.

But Jesus does use Facebook. Quite a few of them are friends with me here in Spain, along with Paco, Pedro, etc.
Facebook does have a ton of flaws, but show me another way to have instant communication with the few dozen international friends I have. When that last tsunami hit Taiwan, I was able to instantly find out whether my friend Emily was okay - there's definitely value to the peace of mind that brings

how about good old-fashioned email? not saying that i don't fakebook 
@walklightly Assuming that people actually checked their email more than maybe once or twice every day, that could work. As it turns out, one of the positive aspects of social media is that people feel compelled to check it frequently because of Fear of Missing Out, so it's simply more expedient to send a fast fb message.
The "checked in as safe" feature on facebook is what I'm specifically talking about with regards to the tsunami, though. There isn't really an expedient equivalent with email

@walklightly yeah FB check-in, I can say that I'm in Timbuctoo when I'm really in Miami.

@ghost_warlock lol. My doctor sent a fax of an ECG down to the city hospital. They claim that their fax pri printer just prints out an illegible blurry mess.
I remember the first fax machines nearly forty years ago. The printer used a ghastly photo type processing printer that did indeed reproduce .3 mm lines as 3 mm with blurry edges. The tech has progressed.
However I digress. What if your friend does not have fax? I know of few homes that do.
Facebook missed its real society-strengthening potentialities. Blind profit is not the answer. #moralevolutionfirst #protectterrafamilyandtreasure

It is a "for profit" company. They have to pay their bills somehow.
