Alright— here’s what I think will be a fun topic:

Name some explanation you were given as a child for a natural occurrence that also involved god or religion.

Example:
—What is thunder? God and the angels are bowling.

—What is rain? God is crying, probably because of something you do.

Etc.

Thunder - God's moving the furniture 🙂

Sun and rain at the same time: devil is beating his wife.

@CarolinaGirl60 Yup I got this one too. wtf were they thinking?

1

Never got those type explanations, at least none I remember.

I have lots of freckles and my mom told me they were "kisses from the angels"
Harmless, but weird nonetheless.

Fun topic ??? Are you crazy ?

It is amusing and harmless.

@HippieChick58
OK! Could not think of anything else to say ! Lol

Lightning is the sky cracking open to give you a glance into heaven; Dinosaur fossils came from pieces of planets smashing together to form earth; having babies makes God happy.....

Rainbow: gods promise to never end the world with water a la Noah.

Married people who want children, just pray for them. That is how children are conceived.

Why the sea is salty. (God made a salt machine that accidently sank & never stopped working)

I was told that thunder is just God moving his furniture around.

If you saw a red cardinal, the spirit of someone you loved was nearby.

@filthyMONKEYmen maybe it was a Chicago thing. They sure were beautiful against a snowy background.

@MARDUK true, but I don't see even pictures of cardinals today without thinking of my father. That association is automatic at this point.

@MARDUK thanks. I don't think his ghost or spirit is there, It just triggers memories of him for me.

Not used as a serious explanation but along the lines of god bowling: the South has a few colorful expressions for weather like that. If there’s a thunderstorm or showers while most of the sky is still sunny it’s called “the devil beating his wife.” Just did some research n apparently Utah and Hungary use this expression too. Sometimes it’s said “the devil beating his wife with a walking stick” because he’s angry god created a beautiful day, and presumably the showers are her tears. ?‍♂️? It’s not as funny when you realize people probably actually believed this shit at some point though.

Thunder, angels bowling. Rain, angels crying. Lightning, God's angry at someone.

I assume you mean aside from Santa, Easter Bunny, and Tooth Fairy.

If you crossed your eyes they'd stay that way. I'm 60, it hasn't happened yet so I'm still waiting.

Black cats being bad luck. Walking under a ladder being bad luck. Breaking a mirror being bad luck for 7 years. I remember breaking a mirror in approx 1985, dunno that my luck was any worse for the next 7 years than it ever was.

I still won't walk under a ladder and I realize how ridiculous that is. And if I spill salt I will throw some over my left shoulder and right shoulder because I can't remember which one is correct. I may need some professional help. A black was only bad luck if it crossed your path. I always would came it wasn't completely black because of the eyes or pink tongue......yep, please refer me.

Oh my god my favorite one from my mom when I asked her why does my period hurt so much. Her response "because your body really, really wants a baby but when you have your period that means it has lost another chance and it is grieving."

I think she was just trying to be funny and make me feel better but every now and then I wonder if I agree with her...

@filthyMONKEYmen LOL! I hope not. I think she was trying to get my mind off the pain. Oh, and remind me that my body is meant to have babies!! Wait..

Raining while the sun was out: The devil is beating his wife!

I heard that as a child also.
