Responses to messages from someone (opposite sex) that your not interested in:. Respond out of politeness or ignore? What do y'all think?

UPDATE: Thanks for your comments. I should have done a survey but it seems that about two thirds think a sincere, polite message deserves a polite response.

Ignore.

You do not owe a complete stranger on the internet an explanation as to why you are not interested. Their feelings are not your concern.

I have always preferred the direct, but polite, approach on either side of the issue. If I message someone and they're not interested I'd rather they just say so. I do the same thing on my end. I feel like ignoring someone is just rude.

That said, this is all predicated on the correspondence being civil and polite on both both ends. If the communication is rude or degrading I'll drop it like it's hot.

Just thank him and tell him you are not interested.

I'd say it depends on the message. The more effort that goes into the the message, the more likely I would be to respond.

"Hey" 😉

Every person in here deserves the dignity of a polite response.

I try to respond and usually do once. After that I don't.

Well if you're on a dating site, you will find that many people you are interested in, won't respond to you. Eventually, if like most women you get a ton of responses, you can't respond to them all. It's not a charity site, you do not need to respond to all of them. It may feel bad for a while but you'll get over it, and if they are used to dating sites they will understand that you're not interested. To get around the problem and head it off, you might put in your profile upfront that if you do not respond to someone it's because you don't feel that you're a good fit. I've heard from many women that some guys get irritated if you turn them down and you certainly don't need that, so I would suggest not responding at all if you're not interested. It's just part of the process unfortunately. If you do decide to respond of course you'll be polite. One response that is on the safe side is to say you just met someone and have to see where it goes. Good luck!

I always find it hard to comment out of context. I'm a Chinese and I've been online when the person I messaged sent me a response like "I don't think we are a good match" when everything I could see seems to be a match. My suspicion is they don't want to date outside their race, which is fine. But of course they don't want to say it. And in that case, I think they should ignore, or be honest and say "I don't date outside my race." Giving some reasons prompts me to want to respond and ask for clarifications. No, I don't ask because I know really why. So what I'm saying is, ignore, but if you have a valid reason, say different views in politics, or religion, then say so. The problem about giving a reason is that it may lead to further messages if the person is insensitive to what is going on. And finally, if it was I who was messaging you, you definitely should answer positively. lol

Polite response.
Ignoring isn't good for anyone's self worth.
You.open yourself to messages, the least you can do is respond.

Ignore.

Once again circumstances dictate the response but in my case I would ignore.
