Camping for me was work when I did archaeological excavations. 6-8 weeks in some remote place living in a tent and bathing in the creeks. No civilization. So camping for vacation wasn’t always my choice. However I did enjoy camping with the dogs in Kananaskis country in the foothills of the Rockies not too far from Banff. We stayed in their teepee tent one time and then after that just stayed in our own tent.

I would love to do horse trail riding with camping. We liked to camp with the dogs so we couldn’t do this before.

2nd: Three-day hike from Cornish to Breakneck Ridge, Appalachian trail. I was eight.
3rd: Canoe trip along the Moose River, upstate New York.

Husband borrowed a trailer/tent combination , went to Pa. , it was freezing . Camping with Civil Air Patrol , search and rescue training with a co-ed group of teens . Camping with SCA (Medieval English re-enactment ) group . Spent a weekend on Dad's cruiser (does that count as camping ) ?

Great photos! I posted one the other day from a trip to the Southwest with a group of 20 women I had not previously known. It was a camping, hiking, kayaking trip in search for the feminine in Native American myth and folk lore. The trip ended with a visit to Meinrad Craighead's art studio. It was amazing.
The only other trip like that was not camping but was a 7 day hiking trip through Peru's Incan valley. Best ever. I did it totally by myself.

I don't mind cooking for myself but I'm done with camping. I used to love it as a kid but I think I am getting to where I just need the creature comforts. I need, in the very least, a cabin, a soft warm bed and hot running water.

I would love a cabin by a lake, I used to enjoy fishing.

I would also like a cabin overlooking the ocean, high enough on a cliff not to be an issue should a storm blow through... I so love watching lightning flashing over the sea.

I think a dude ranch type set up might be fun. I used to love riding but I don't know if I could actually pull it off anymore. My back and hip are off enough to make it too painful to enjoy.

I know it isn't anywhere near camping but I've never been on a cruise and I'd like to just once.

During a full moon I'd drive a hundred miles or so, down into the great rift valley and the middle of nowhere, usually with a friend, and then turn off the dirt road and pick our way a couple of miles into the semi-arid scrub, find a good spot and pitch camp, arriving about 4pm. We'd scavenge for firewood and also cut some green sticks, then light a fire, make tea, and settle down. Sunset in Kenya is always around 6.45, and we'd enjoy watching the sky change colour and turn black, as the stars came out., and also watch the moon rise. Being on the equator, the entire process only took at most 45 minutes.
We would sit up all night, talking quietly, holding chunks of meat over the fire using the green and therefore reasonably fireproof sticks. For a change we sometime put some green(ish) foliage on the fire and smoked the meat. I have many memories of sitting there, sometimes in silence, sometimes talking quietly, and watching the great herds of zebra and wildebeeste grazing on the plains, often coming quite close as they realised we were not a threat. On one occasion a herd of them stampeded right past us, being chased by a leopard, a fantastic memory which is imprinted in my mind.
We would watch the dawn sky change through all the colours of the rainbow (did you know that for about a dozen seconds it turns apple green?) and eventually see the great red orb of the sun peer above the distant horizon.
At this point, we would retire into the tent and sleep until 11am, then make tea on the fire before putting it out with water and burying the coals, then drive back to Nairobi.

No outdoor camping for me. My idea of roughing it is a hotel with a bad room service menu!

I've done several long distance walking and cycling camping trips, but what I'd really like to do is a very long distance trek - something like the Appalachian Trail.

Here in CO (and other states too, I presume) there are places that you can sign up to go hike with llamas. Bonus: the llamas do all the heavy carrying for you!!
Besides that, anything with water, from staying on a houseboat to floating down a river. I've been camping a million+ times, but feel I am severely lacking in the llama and water experiences.
And oh yeah, camping with good beer, I can always do more of that!

Personally I prefer to camp in hotel rooms.
