How Long Do You Think You Would Survive On A Deserted Island?

For those of you who are of a particular age, You probably remember the show Gilligan's Island!

Its about a group of people who were ship wrecked and stranded on a deserted Island.

If you were stranded on a deserted island with absolutely nothing but the clothes on your back, How Long do you think you would last, taking into consideration your current survival skills.

Can you fish, or hunt? How knowledge are you on plant life and its affect on the body? How familar are you with animal and insect life? Are you capable of constructing shelter to protect yourself from the elements? How Long Would You Last?

Being disabled if I was alone I would be dead pretty quick.

I sweat to much. I would have to have 2 gallons of water a day. Not to mention a half pound of food a day.

There are guys with all survivor skills what have you... but that does not make them a survivor. I am a Survivor. I will last as long I can. It is a frame of mind and a will to continue living under worst circumstances. I will Manage, whatever it takes.

Many years ago, the company I was working for went bankrupt and I found myself in need of finding any job as soon as possible. One of them required me to complete a written exam in order to ascertain whether I was worth an interview or not.

The exam was one question: "Imagine an aeroplane has crashed on a desert island and you are the only survivor. Which of the following would you retrieve from the wreckage, and what would be your first action?" followed by a list of items.

At that point, I decided the company was utterly ridiculous; however, instead of walking out, I wrote: "You sell curtains and soft furnishings. WTF has this got to do with anything?"

The most amazing thing is, I was offered the job.

I would need books!!!! I can do without sex if I have to (I'm living proof right now!), could figure out shelter, maybe fire & some food, but I would go bonkers without reading material!

As a type 1 diabetic, I'd last as long as my insulin.

And maybe less. I'm not exactly an outdoorsy type.

I have a good knowledge of how to survive, I don't know a whole lot about plant life but I do know about animals. But if it came to me having to kill for my own food... I wouldn't last. Because I seriously don't have the need to live, like... If a car sped my way I probably wouldn't move. That is how little I care about living. So, I highly doubt I would take another life for food if I had to kill it myself.

Sorry to hear that. I suffer from depression, also, & I sincerely hope you can find a way through, whether it's docs, talk, or whatever works. Good luck to you & know we have your back!

hmmmm as long as I had a volleyball to talk to and be my best friend, I would be ok for a few months. I can fish, make shelter, I better start studying some Bear Grylls episodes. 😉

It would depend on the size of the island and the resources available.
I can build shelter and have a reasonable knowledge of vegetation and could build animal traps. I'm sure I would manage if there were sufficient resources.

I would last for a few years.

Longer than on an island choked with high-rise condos.

It would totally depend on the natural resources available on the Island, but I think I'd be okay, I've been on many survival courses run by ex SAS. I keep my training up to date and well practised as I enjoy hiking in crazy places.

A couple months, maybe. I'd probably eat something poisonous, have an accident with major injury, or die by snake/spider/komodo dragon.

Years+, assuming the island had the resources to support me.
