Tattooed people! Have you ever dealt with friends and family who didn't approve of your tattoos, specifically citing religious reasons? How did you/do you handle that?
There was a book out a few years ago that was a year where they tried to live biblically, following all Levitical laws. Didn't wear any earrings, no clothing made of mixed fibers, didn't cut their hair, etc. It was nearly impossible not to make following all these laws a full time job. So if someone makes a comment about my tattoos in reference to religion, if they are wearing earrings, get haircuts, or are themselves breaking any Levitical laws, I point that out to them. While they are backpedaling and checking their bible app, I walk away.
I tell them that the people who have been the kindest, most generous, and loving toward me have had tattoos, or have been supportive of skin art. Conversely the meanest people in my life did not approve of tattoos. I just share that tidbit of information, and turn the tables on them.
Oh my! When I got home from South Korea (I was in the army) I got a tattoo and my nose and navel pierced. My grandma told me that Jesus wouldn't like it very much. I told her that was ok, cause I liked me and that's what matters! She hasn't said too much since!
