Yes in religious schools, this is where I began to figure this whole thing out. The myths spoke load and clear. These are fairy tales. I got into some trouble making comments in these schools but their answers to my questions just made me more of a non believer. Now let us speak of public schools. No they should not teach religion or hold classes or any other function in a public school. That is why they are called public schools paid for with tax dollars.

1

Not in public schools, of course. I don't want my tax dollars supporting religious dogma or beliefs of any variety.

It all ready is it's called a momostary where men do shiny in the dark with little boys.Happy happy Yule tide

Religion shouldn't be taught.

End of story.

Maybe in history class.

I think everything that could be looked at as a religion or belief system involving forces beyond the everyday (thinking along the lines of shamanism) should be taught/examined in school like one would study sociological systems. It is a fact of human reality/history and the effects of different belief systems can not be ignored. I was raised Catholic but learned much more about Catholicism in my own studies of history in bits and pieces over time

Yes! It should all be taught. Every Religion should be taught as in the field of the Humanities, yet it s should not be taught as accurate or fact and the fact of the writings should be separated from the made up parts as some History can be accurate in ways yet it does not mean the entire text is accurate so as we teach in any ancient documents we do not say that Mithra's was accurate because people of the day might of thought this....god like figure was real, yet many documents at that time have relevant history that can help us understand the culture, times and living environments.

2

In a philosophy class YES it is part of human philosophical history and the driver of many philosophical points of view( (Example: Lucretius 54BCE..."Tantum Religio Potuit suadre malorum"..."So powerful is religion that it tempts us to evil" )

As some form of fact, truth, science or alternative to reason......ABSOLUTELY NOT!,

If one religion is taught, then as many as possible should be taught. I would love to know more about the mayan, incan, and other new world religions, not to mention the asian religious beliefs

Yes, as a part of any "Mythology Couse" and/or during a "Critical-Thinking Course" as examples of faulty thinking / logical fallacies. Etc.

1

No not necessary to mess up kids, let them chose when they are older and capable of making that decision.

Only in higher levels. Never before high school. And only as theory and with all non religious theories as well.

1

Religion should be taugh ABOUT, the same way cannibalismand NAzi attrocities are taught ABOUT. "This is what NOT to do".

1

not "a" religion, but the sociology or religions... pretty brief subject though, I'd say...

1

Talk about religion only in comparative religions classes. Not in science classes because religion is not science. The latest form of religion is pseudoscience called intelligent design. If you would like to talk about intelligent design do it in a religion class. If you are curious please review the PBS documentary "Judgement Day: intelligent design on trial." See it on YouTube.

A school can talk about religion but if cannot Advocate religion.

Yes, but not as I was taught at school which was pretty much just about Christianity. The subject of religion should be taught, reasons why people hold their beliefs, different ethnicity, cultures etc. and as many religions should be covered as possible.

No

I had a religious education class at school. Learning about different religions is a god thing. Just don't teach about one religion and teach it as fact.

1

I personally believe it has no place in school because of separation of church and state; however, I'm not opposed to it being an elective course.

1

Hell NO!
Here's a notion teach history, science, philosophy, mathematics, teach how to think with logic.

Yes..history,basics of that religion, stick to facts

1

Sure. there is a lot of history intertwined with religion. But teach ALL religions, and how they are similar. Besides, if you don't learn about religion, how are you going to win on Jeopardy!

3

Yes, but objectively in the same sense that I learned about Greek/Roman mythology when I studied Latin.

1

Yep and what as been done in the name of religion. On the ww2 German soldiers belt buckle it read "god is on our side" or words to that effect.

1

I think either they all should be or none should be. I took a "World Religion" class in the 111th grade and it set me out on this path, which I am eternally grateful for.

2

No it undermines the pursuit of knowledge.
