Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.It isn't possible to rely entirely upon science, nor to reject superstition out of hand. Scientific knowledge is often found wanting, and older theories are regularly rejected as false.
What is more, old wives tales about remedies are now being used in medicine, after research has discovered that they had curative properties after all., which is why silver is now being used in healing wounds, and even leeches have been reintroduced

What did the word mean “enthusiasm” in Smith’s time? My Compact Edition of the Oxford English Dictionary will tell me but I need a magnifying glass to read it.
The OED on my Kindle says the word is “from [Greek] enthous ‘possessed by a god, inspired’ (based on theos ‘god’”
Don’t know about that. Be up The Kop end when Liverpool are beating Man Utd 2-0 with 2 mins to go!
