This is a grouping of pansies. I have a special fondness for pansies. I think of them as little soldiers. If they are in a cold climate, but planted in a somewhat sheltered place, I have seen them come up every year. I think that is why I like them. Pansies are also early spring bloomers. Such beautiful combinations of colors.
Also, along with Violets, their close cousins, they are the larval food sources for many species of Fritillary butterflies, including the Great Spangled Fritillary
