What was everyone's first bike and their experiences with it?

My first was a Honda Ruckus in 2012. It was squirrelly, had a top speed limiter at 42 miles an hour, got 94 miles a gallon and I rode it EVERYWHERE (slowly but everywhere).

When I was 12 I got a Honda SL-70, an on/off road bike. Now 59 I'm on my 3rd Harley Road Glide since 2005.

Awww, that little Honda looks like it was a good first bike!

@OuzelWoman it really was. We followed the train tracks everywhere back then

I got to ride a Helix, that was a nice scooter, very smooth.

I have a Ruckus now, and I love it. I live in a rural area (agricultural) with gravel roads etc.
And since I have adapted to "Hawaiian time"
as in not in a hurry my Ruckus is plenty fast.
If I ever get a need for speed, I have a Honda Magna as well. It, however seems to be getting heavier as I get older, (75 now) so I'm mostly on the Ruckus.
Oh ya, my first motorized 2 wheeler was a Doodlebug, then a Cushman scooter and a Wizzer motorized bicycle.
I've had some kind of motorized 2 wheeler for almost all of my life since I was 11 till now. Still love to ride.

About 10 years old, I think? I don’t remember the details of the machine, but it was some kind of Frankenscooter three wheeler built from a Cushman maybe? It belonged to some kids from church. Occasionally, we’d spend the day at each other’s houses between morning and evening services on Sundays. On this particular day, I went home with them. They lived in the country, and they taught me how to drive the thing. I had never driven a motorized anything before then, so the concept of a clutch was especially mysterious. The contraption had a bed, made for hauling, so we took turns driving each other around on the gravel roads. It was a fun day, and hadn’t thought about it in years until this post came up. ?

Thanks for sharing your fun memory with us! I owned a Cushman for a few weeks before I even knew how to ride it. Fixing it up and selling it help me get enough money together for my first scooter.

My first was a bsa bantam 125, when I was 13. I bought it from my friend for 35 pound and had to keep it at his house because my mother would have killed me, if she had known, lol
She eventually found out and let me keep it's
I've had an affinity for British bikes my whole life and currently own two triumphs

First I owned was a Yamaha Exciter 1. 250cc Single cylinder street bike.

1965 Triumph Cub.

Used to fix it in the kitchen - usually cleaning and gapping the points. By early 70's standards was pretty reliable.
As a first bike, I thought it was really fast..... 🙂 🙂 🙂

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I rolled my Ruckus into my apartment regularly, both to have it worked on it and to look at it. I always thought it was weird to bring it in the house, but the more people I talk to the more common it seems.
