Eurovision Song Contest held in Birmingham, U.K. 1988. - Winner Israel - Dana International singing “Diva”.

This post today was prompted by the response to an earlier post this morning by @LenHazell53, which was about a protest a couple of years ago in Israel by Extreme Orthodox Jews to The Eurovision Song Contest taking place on the Jewish Sabbath. My own opinion is that as Israel isn’t in Europe they shouldn’t be eligible to compete in the competition in the first place....however I digress, the fact is they do compete and in fact they have won it a few times. The first of these wins was in 1998 and was not free of controversy in Israel when it was revealed that the winner Dana International had been born male and had undergone male-to-female reassignment surgery to become female.
