Burns is the Scottish national bard, and in Edinburgh we had an inter-school competition where each school sent representatives to perform in an annual public concert of Robert Burns poetry, music and song festival. I, and others represented my school in a few of these concerts. I still have a great fondness for this song sung here by Kenneth McKellar. I actually think it’s one of the most beautiful love songs ever written.
