There has never been any mention of anyone trying to slow down Titanic's sinking or to make any kind of raft to save more people. Titanic hit the iceberg at around 11:40 and the stern slipped below the surface at around 2:20. Murdock called for all stop after they got past the iceberg so by midnight everybody on board would have known something was wrong because the ship wasn't moving anymore. That's also about the same time they started loading the lifeboats. I think it would have been pretty obvious there weren't enough lifeboats for everyone and they were loading women and children only. At the beginning the only men going were either crew members or had sea going experience, so there had to be more than a few men that realized they were on their own as far as being saved was concerned. It appears they resigned themselves to their fate. Ain't no way in hell I'm just going to sit down and wait to drown or freeze to death. Considering Titanic could hold 3,327 passengers and there were only 2,307 people on board there were a shitload of life vests left over, I'd have got a bunch of them and lashed them to a deck chair or something. The sea was like glass, all you needed was something to keep you dry. Ship's sinking, so anything is fair game, who's going to notice or care if you start tearing shit up, hell get a bunch of mattresses and tie them together. There's a ships light in the distance and Carpathia has said it's on it's way, so all we need to do is stay dry for a hour or two. Boat's 883 ft. long, there's something there you can use to stay dry for a couple of hours.
