Of course the US did this and much more.
Illegal activities are only illegal when some other country does it.
US government has even carried out a successful assasination of a democratically elected president.
We have sent weapons and ammunition to "rebels" in other countries to overthrow their government. This was just fine but let another country run a few Facebook ads and it is treated like an act of war.
Could you imagine if some other country considered the alt right "rebel fighters" and started supplying anti aircraft and anti tank missiles along with other heavy ordnance like tanks and fighter aircraft?
We do it all the time in the "name of freedom and democracy" and think nothing of it.
