I've never had a mother-in-law to get drunk, which i guess considering me is a good thing. When things turned from casual conversation into "this could be going somewhere" with my wife I offered to fly there for lunch - fly in Sat morning and out on Sat night - just to have a face to face for 15 minutes. Yes it's that importaint.

Campfires and churches? How very Norman Rockwell a view. People change communities due to socio-economic pressures that also decrease our connections to each other. We're conditioned to "get ours" and "work hard and sacrifice now so you dont have to work hard later" with the goalposts of what "later" means conveniently shifted down the road so it never comes. We're bombarded with "You need this" and "this, right here, that'll make you happy" bullshit marketing crap designed to get you further into debit on the treadmill of capitalism. Campfires and churches. We have massive stadiums to gather in, auditoriums, meeting halls, convention centers, bookstores, cafes, restaurants, bars, book clubs, sex clubs, coffee shops, malls, concerts, museums, parks, blahblahblah. People don't have a sense of community because no ones figured out how to make a profit off of it yet.

I never initiate contact here just from habit. When I first joined this site back in Dec of '17 (yes, different account) there was a major imbalance in the male to female ratio here, at least 5 : 1. The guys, of course, would pester anyone they thought they had even a slight chance with, with predictable results. Looking back it's amazing the women stuck it out here. I figured joining in that would be pretty stupid, and at the time was only looking for someone to have the occasional dinner with and that seemed like an awful lot of effort for a meal or 2 a month. So I just particated in the forums and had fun, and the people who wanted to talk to me did - including my future wife. I did keep talking out of politeness on a few occassins when it was obvious to me I wasn't interested, which was probably wrong. They'd made the effort and a part of me felt a little bad that it wasn't going to work out - they were nice people just trying to make a connection and I just couldn't bring myself to say "good luck and goodbye".

My personal limit on travel was if I can't get there in 4 hours it's to far - but I don't limit it to driving. So a 4 hour plane trip wasn't out of the question, which was a good thing because my partner lived 3 1/2 hours away by plane. I worked in downtown Seattle for over 25 years - 10 of them right across the street from SAM - and like everything you learn the best way to navigate it. About the worse thing you can use to get around downtown is a car, btw. Lake Stevens is nice but can be horrible to get out of on a bad traffic day. I can understand why your daughter wouldn't want to subject herself to more traffic. The Tulalip tribe's cultural center west of Marysville has some nice native American art and is much closer to lake Stevens.

The only scenario where he willingly doesn't seek reelection is if he resigns (they'll give him the cover of "for his health" if forced to resign). There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth, and even more relief if that does happen. Unfortunatly there are repubs who look like they'd take his policy and go forward (Sessions but his time has passed, Pence to a degree, Moore but without a large enough rabid base), but I doubt they'd be successful in it. Trumps done enough to taint his policies as bad in general (to thinking, feeling people, at least - and yeah, just because you don't feel like being insulted for supporting this corrupt, morally bankrupt administration doesnt mean I'll follow your wishes). Trump is wildly unsuccessful in accomplishing what gets promised (you just make sure and let me know when that check from Mexico to pay for the wall clears) and I think you'll find that "Trumpism" is a short term major movement - thankfully.

Make sure there's room in your life for them, and ask yourself how you'll feel having to go home to take care if the dogs instead of heading out after work to meet people or do whatever. I like being a house hubby, it's great. We eat what I want when I want (with some input), I know where everything in the damn house is, and i dont actually expect her to do anything but dust and vaccumme (allergies or I'd do that too, but I also turn loose a robot vac every other day). But I wouldn't do it for just anyone - it is actual work - although in some aspects doing something for 2 is actually easier, and if I don't feel like cooking or she wants something I don't feel like making we go out or she makes it. I have a partner that understands and appreciates what I do, and without that appreciation I couldn't do it. So I don't blame them one little bit. Just don't make the mistake of thinking all guys are like that. There's a good, solid, 1/2 of 1% of us that'll actually take care of ourselves, with a further 1/2 of that number who'll take care of you, too. We're just all taken. PFFFFFT. ;)
