@Byrdsfan long ago (in internet time, so maybe a year and 1/4 ago) my wife and I devised a rating system for "look at me" posts. I called them peacock posts, and we hashtagged them on a 1 to 5 NBC (the peacock network) scale, based on the how we percieved the posters self esteem to be - 5 being full blown narcissist and 1 being pitiful cries for attention, with 3 being what we considered "normal" preening. Haven't really been using it since I came back onto the site, but I'll occasionally remember to use it.

I expected very few responses to this. It seems to make people feel importaint/empowered/like they're contributing when talking about standards and rules that need to be adopted that never will. What's stunned me about this is no ones called in the courts - yet. I think you give the creators to much credit. I used to think it was for mid term voting research, but experience has shown that there's no way that was part of the plan.

@LetzGetReal see, here's the problem I have with this pic crap. For all we know she may actually look a lot like the pic - no idea (from the links posted in watchers it actually looked like 2 different actress to me, but I didn't study them to find out). Long ago I looked an awful lot like John Ritter. I was routinely mistaken for him, overheard people in stores asking each other if there was something being filmed nearby, and was actually asked for an autograph several times. It got bad enough that I grew my hair out and got a perm, which helped. If I'd put my pic up, it would have been flagged as fake here. Make up is not a moot point, it is changing ones appearance to be more attractive. That's why it exists. So that person is misrepresenting what they actually look like (thier choice) when applying make up. My question is do we consider this as honest behavior? There are lots and lots of people here for community only, not dating. If someone isn't here for dating why should they have to meet the thresholds of what the dating side wants? Any halfway competent programmer can mine this site. All the data is public and everyone's profile page links to every post and comment they've ever made. It'd be relativly easy to write some code to transfer all that info into a database. To think anything here hasn't been mined by someone is kinda naive, imo.

Makeup is *designed* to make people more attractive than they actually are, so hence the question - "is this deception?" There's around 5 or 6 posts on CB's profile pic so far, some in general and hellos, some in the senate, some in the Watchers group (where this all started, for some idiotic reason). Seems to be a hot button issue, and I'm just trying to see at what point we consider someones picture to be an honest representation of who they are. @JackPedigo yes, I saw it, and I can redig up my sources too. That that was the diet isn't in question, the purpose of the diet is. Gladiators were top athletes, but they were also blood sport entertainers who's exisistance was to put on a good show. Anyone who watches fights will tell you that a good show is one where the fighters trade blows with each other. While thier diet sustained them and allowed them to be the best gladiators they could be, part of that is being able to take abuse. Scant armor was used - can't hide what people want to see, blood - the only protection they actually had was extra mass/padding a layer of fat would provide, and the diet enabled them to add that. The diet wasn't designed to get them to a ripe old age or to be a statuesque symbol of fitness, it was to put on the best show possible. That includes being cut, stabbed, and hit, which you need protection from. That's not to say they were fat slobs or anything, they were athletes with a *very* high activity level. They put on fat and muscle while eating this way and training, quite literally, hard enough to save thier lives.

There's a movement in Washington state called *State of Liberty* to create a 51st state out of eastern washington, largely due to differences in lifestyle - cultural differences - that affect each sides political decisions. They'd be happy to either leave the US or kick western Washington out of the US. With bush/cheney and trump I whole heartedly agree. Been mentioned here before that cries of patriotism is the refuge of scoundrels.

Every region has thier own culture - hell, just look at the difference between country folk and city dwellers within a 100 mile radius and they share very little besides language (which still has variations) and currency.

I've seen studies of gladiators diets where the focus was on mass and layers of fat for protection - so they could be cut and bleed for a good show without risking death as much. Training and supporting gladiators was expensive and fights to the death between them were rarer than historical fiction would have us believe. So basically they were eating that way to be fatter, not sure that's the model of a meat free diet you want.

The eye of a hurricane is 20 + miles across, how big of a ship are we talking here, and how much of the ocean are you willing to freeze?
