I grew up in a mid-sized city in the Midwest. I was raised in the Pentecostal church until I "deconverted" in my late thirties after serving as the primary caregiver for both my ill/elderly parents about four and a half years, losing them both, and finally finding time to return to church only to be treated like a prodigal son. I left the church right away and eventually left the faith. Since that time, I've traveled a lot for work.
