When did you start drinking coffee and why?
A2Jennifer comments on Oct 31, 2018:
I once made my dad run me by the grocery store on the way to middle school for milk for my coffee. Now I drink it black and strong.

A2Jennifer comments on Oct 25, 2018:
My (narcissistic) father once told my then-fiancé that I was “difficult.” My (sociopathic) now-ex jumped on that bandwagon and spent years telling me how unreasonable and mean I was for asking CRAZY things like that he not steal from his family. The people who find me “difficult” think that because I have this terrible habit of having my own needs and feelings and the ridiculous idea that those things should matter to people who say they love me. So, so you think you can tell Heaven from hell Blue skies from pain Can you tell a green field From a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? Did they get you to trade Your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? Did you exchange A walk on part in the wall For a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl Year after year Running over the same old ground And how we found The same old fears Wish you were here

A2Jennifer comments on Oct 24, 2018:
I married my HS boyfriend. He said he loved me. He said it a LOT. But I don’t know what that meant because it didn’t mean that he wanted me to be happy, or have what I needed, or just be ok. It didn’t mean that he wouldn’t hurt me if it got him something he wanted. I spent many years feeling like him *really* loving me, loving me the way I loved him, was just out of reach. That if I gave a little more, sacrificed a little more, asked just a little less, THEN I would feel loved. That never happened.
There is alot that I don't tell people. So many of them wouldn't understand.
A2Jennifer comments on Oct 23, 2018:
Yeah. I don’t think anyone could really understand me without knowing what I’ve been through.
Thoughts on marriage : There seems to be many in the community who are anti marriage.
A2Jennifer comments on Oct 23, 2018:
Choose carefully! I wouldn’t call myself “anti” marriage but I’m a lot more skeptical about it since being in an emotionally abusive one, where the common societal beliefs about marriage were used to keep me in it.
A many splendid thing.
A2Jennifer comments on Oct 22, 2018:
I second that. I made lots of youthful bad decisions based on the need to feel loved - and thinking I needed a boy to do that. I stayed in a bad marriage to that boy for a long time because I let him convince me that he loved me, even though he didn’t give a crap if I had anything I needed and was totally willing to hurt me if it got him something he wanted. Now I realize I lived that whole time without being loved the way I loved him. So now “romantic love” doesn’t seem so important anymore.
I looked a complete idiot today.

A2Jennifer comments on Oct 18, 2018:
Evolution has favored this tendency - men’s genes are most likely to be successfully passed on by producing many children, women’s genes are most likely to survive by nurturing the children they have already invested much time into, and it helps to have the second caregiver/provider stick around to do so. That said, people are different, and have different needs.

One of those is “care for others” (empathy) and liberals tend to value that above all others, while conservatives tend to more equally weight all of the different types of moral values, including those rooted in loyalty and “yuck.”

This idea that because white men get what they want, men in general do, is wrong and IMO, dangerous!...
A2Jennifer comments on Oct 7, 2018:
You are talking about white feminism, and the ways that feminism often leaves out POC. Unquestionably, POC have it harder than white women and women of color get the shortest stick of all in today’s culture. POC are dying at the hands of the people tasked with protecting the public, and from generations of institutional racism, and some people simply ignore those realities. It is also true that many white women support white men in oppressing others because that is the best thing for them, personally, and to hell with everyone else. The Republican Party seems to be the party of “me first” and it holds power in part by stoking divisions among the various groups it would oppress - POC, women, immigrants, the working poor. But many of us voted against Trump and reject the traditional white male power structure because of its impacts on *everyone* who is oppressed by this status quo. And we need not abandon women’s rights for minority rights or vice versa. A rising tide, as they say, lifts all boats. The fury of women right now will, hopefully, lead to political shifts that will support the needs and the rights of all groups.
I just had a cool thing happen.

A2Jennifer comments on Oct 7, 2018:
I am of course looking for compatibility. But no matter what we have in common, the thing that always puts me off is negativity, especially in the form of anger. I have occasionally seen a statement like “No liars, cheaters or game-players.” Fair, right? But it screams “baggage.” You could say “I value honesty, loyalty and straight-forwardness.” It says the same thing about what they are looking for but something totally different about the speaker.
Hello! New to this group.

It sounds like you are going through a lot of adjustment. Take the opportunity to find things to do for YOURSELF. Surely there were things that you didn’t do because you were too busy “serving” your family (not judging, *RELATING*!) whatever it was, to for it. Take a class, join a club, learn a hobby or a skill or a language. Find something that makes you happy and do it!

Another good way to get out in the world is meetup.com. Join some groups based on interests and go to some events that interest you. It will help you to meet people outside of the church network. Last and most important, BE SAFE. Always schedule a first meeting in a public place- never give out your address or get into a car with anyone you don’t know. Tell someone where you will be and with who, and have them check on you if they haven’t heard from you by a designated time. Also there is an abuse survivors group here that you might want to join.

The MeToo campaign versus the presumption of innocence - World Socialist Web Site
A2Jennifer comments on Oct 5, 2018:
The vast majority of sexual assault allegations are true. Being a victim of sexual assault is the only crime where people automatically doubt the veracity of the allegation. It is the only crime for which the victim is routinely blamed. It is a crime for which there is often no physical evidence, and even when there is, prosecution is rarely pursued. I BELIEVE SURVIVORS. At the same time, the presumption of innocense, when it comes to criminal prosecution, must be protected. Like freedom of speech, if we eliminate the protection, it is the most vulnerable and disenfranchised citizens that will pay the highest price. Already, the presumption of innocence, like “stand your ground” applies mostly to white men.
