Dealing with grief
Amisja comments on Dec 28, 2018:
I am so terribly terribly sorry for your loss. Let yourself grieve, give yourself time and try to remember them. When my Mum died my biochem lecturer told me that energy is eternal that we all share some of the same atoms of Julius Cesear. The physical sentinence is absent but their energy continues. Whats good about this is that it is demonstrable fact. Life continues in their energy and their being in your memory. Much love

Why are people are so unkind? What are the biological benefits to being horrible to other humans?
Amisja comments on Nov 3, 2018:
Thank you all for your replies. I take pleasure in seeing others happy. It hurts me if they hurt. Not even people...animals too. Yesterday I had to stand a student down off the BSc nursing course. As a Nigerian, she will also lose the right to remain in the UK. It was heartbreaking to see her so distraught. She had lied on her initial application and her English was very poor. Still its not nice. My colleague thought it was funny. Then my partner's son decided to let us down at the last minute. My partner hasn't seen him in years and it was a surprise. I wouldn't do that in a million years. I just do not get unkindness. I do not understand people who take pleasure seeing someone hurt, even someone as onerous as President Trump.

As I was driving to work (bad bad Jayney) and thinking about this. We are really going to have to make changes. I recycle everything, I rarely buy new clothes, we only rarely eat out but I KNOW my carbon footprint is way too big. I think, although my efforts are a little way forward but we need to make massive changes. The cars will have to go, as will our reliance on oil and plastic. I think we have the brains and creativity to make things better but it will take investment from the top down. My Dad says the Earth isn't at risk at all, as humans will die out way before the globe does. It is us that is endangered.

Line dry or mechanical?
Amisja comments on Oct 15, 2018:
You know years ago, I used to chat on a political website in USA. It started because I lived there at the time and as a working class British lass I could not understand why anyone would dry clothes in dryers. I mentioned that I had been instructed by the appt complex owners, that line drying was not permitted. I asked my father-in-law who said (quoting) "Yes because people will think you are a poor Mexican"! I was horrified. He was an academic and certainly left leaning politically. What followed was the BIGGEST political debate of my life. From climate change to racism, to knowledge economy to American values and beyond...all starting from a discussion about line drying. Sunshine (if you have it) is free, why wouldn't you use it. I live back in NW England, known for grey rainy weather and I still mostly line dry where I can. If not I dry clothes indoors on a 'maiden'.

Amisja comments on May 10, 2018:
I have heard this argument from several feminist sisters. I am a feminist and here is my take. Being a woman is not about appearance alone. I know I am female, I have all the correct girlie bits and more or less the right place yeah, but I also feel it. My world view is that of a woman, I still respond physically to babies crying, I have all the commensurate hormonal responses to being a woman, I did all the womanly things like having babies etc. But gender isn't as simple as that. Who is to say, given different parents in a different world I might have behaved very differently. Gender is fluid and it is also a biological thing, feeling 'wrong' is not an affectation, it is correctable. Once we allow people the opportunity to fully explore gender then things may not feel so confined.

Happiness has proved elusive.
Amisja comments on May 30, 2019:
You talk about the American way of life but I would suggest that the way of life expected in most western countries views personal acquisition of wealth and status as the focus for happiness. In other societies and other times, we viewed contentment as our contribution to society and care for each other. I would suggest that makes far far more sense.
What Causes Religious Belief?
Amisja comments on Dec 2, 2018:
Religious belief stems from a fear of death and the apparent fragility of life. In a time before we understood anything about the world, the death of otherwise young healthy people would have seemed to defy any sort of logic or explanation. Especially because we continue to 'sense' them. We have a memory that lasts a long time. Certainly other primates, even dogs and cats (oh and definitely dolphins) do pine for love ones...they feel the loss but they lack the imagination to make any sort of sense of it. Couple this with apparent 'miracle' recoveries, when all else seemed doomed and it isn't a massive leap for us to insert an idea of some supernatural control. We are hard wired to fill in gaps. People can read entire sentences without vowels with no issue. We see an almost completed circle and automatically complete it. I can imagine as a cognitive shortcut there is some excellent advantages to this. So if it looked and felt magic our brains would fill in the gaps.

Amisja comments on Nov 23, 2018:
Hello person behind this profile. I am reaching out to you, not the fake person you claim to be. Seriously look around this site. This site chooses evidence over fantasy, chooses science over hopes and prayers. It understands the frailty of human life but is prepared to stick around anyway. I know what poverty feels like. I understand how people get persuaded to do things outside of their characters. You may even believe this is a 'victimless crime' relieving rich Americans or Eurpoeans of their money. That isn't the case. You are abusing vulnerable people. In my experience, Americans are hugely generous and many would contribute to support you if you just asked. Pretending to love someone, pretending they are special, that is unredeemedly cruel. So man behind this profile, tell your gang leader no you will not do this to lonely vulnerable people. You want to improve the journey of your countrypeople by honest endeavours. Then come and meet us as you. We want to meet you, we want to understand but you cannot scam us. Please understand that. Seriously. I have nothing. I beg you to consider if this is what you want from your life. If not we will be willing to chat. Much love Jayne xx

We would like to believe that goodness is rewarded, but it isn't. ..certainly not by material wealth, notority and adulation.
