Oh its so hard. The first time I delivered a keynote lecture in front of 600 students, I nearly had a tennalady moment (hope that translates?). What I did was take my glasses off, then I couldn't see them. My boss said concentrate on your subject and not on yourself. You know your stuff, thats what your audience needs.

In UK never had one, however I was literally groomed by a couple who were ostensibly selling us a house. They invited us round for dinner, offered us gifts, offered to let our kids go round to play in the pool and 'get used to the house'. Then they offered us to join their church. Basically when we said no, they withdrew from the sale. I felt violated.

Just start chatting to people. I do. I was reading something about Gramsci in a queue at Wilkos (British shop) yesterday and this guy started talking to me about communism and political thought. I can sit on our local coffee shop and start chatting about alsorts. Volunteering is a good way too.

Hi Vince, wow I felt every word of what you wrote. I struggled with single too. I had never been single from age 16 years. I had never done anything for myself. I cooked, cleaned, went to work, cared for the children. Then overnight...I was dumped and single. I left...went to my Dads and licked my wounds. My best friend had just died prior to that and it was an emotional roller coaster. Then I did things for me. It was weird at first. I bought a hairbrush. Wow...then started a bank account. My bank manager was amazing. He is muslim so when he spilt he left his faith too. We became friends. He showed me how to manage my pennies and still live well. I had my car, my profession and my determination to suceed. My kids initially abandoned me but slowly they have returned (except my daughter). Its so hard, you literally feel like you have a limb ripped off. I listened to soppy songs and started to remember me. There is no level or expertise to singledom, just be kind (and if you can kind to your ex). Just be open to being loved again. You are safe here and really welcome. I am sending you a big hug from UK.

From 16 until 50 years of age a man controled my money (second one very badly). Everything was given or secondhand. My washing machine had a brush up to it to keep the door shut. I had no credit card, no access to savings and had to ask for everything. Money for kids was met with eyerolls and I basically wore rags. (Charity shop fodder). I have since (with my lovely bank manager Arif) sorted out my finances for me. I discovered I do have a little money that matures in 3 years and I can do this. I am not rich, not where I thought I'd be but I am me.

My taxes are paid out of my salary. Its usually fairly accurate but a little known fact in UK is you don't have to pay taxes like that. You can pay all at once. I could never have all the money at once. I owe what I owe and frankly I think we Brits should pay more. Taxes are a good thing.

My Mum and Grandma taught me and my sister all our supergirl powers (now not exclusively for girls). We both sew, knit, crochet, bake, cook. I tat too but my cousin's gran taught me that. I learned them all with pride but they will die with me.

I have never neededyo terminate a pregnancy. My body chose to do it three times. That is an abortion. A medical termination would involve a deliberate personal choice. There lies the issue it is a personal decision and in the same way as my miscarriages, no one else's business.

I suggest this, if there remains anyone who is directly affected by institutional racism, then reparations should be paid. Seeing as there was evidence of peonage and even direct slavery into the 1960s then I think they have a point. As do Polish and German Jews. I think my country owes something to how the RC community was treated in NI in addition to how we treated the Black people of the Windrush generation. We are what previous generations made of us. However some of us made it despite all that. Democratic Socialism suggests that we should all be given an equal start. That to me is appropriate reparation. That and provide a real understanding of what injustice is really like.
