@Jacar I make a habit of doing just that. I watch US news, French, RT and HK news...as well as BBC. I also live here. There have been cases brought to court for alsorts of groups a CofE vicar near me got into trouble for talking rubbish about gypsies (by far the most universally disliked and openly distrusted group in UK). Amisja replies on Feb 10, 2019:
@OwlInASack @Marine I also live in an area with a large population of Muslim people, mostly from Pakistan, some Banglageshi and some from the Gurjarat region of India. What you describe just is not what I see here. People generally get on alright. Yeah there are extreme right wing idiots but people in East Lancs have a long history of ignoring them. A few streets away from us, some old industrial land has a beautiful mosque built on it. It is sandstone and marble. They have community days where they open the doors. They provide food and a warm welcome to their beautiful rooms. Yes they are segregated, which is weird...but I don't know why, its also fairly comforting to be just around women. The Muslims are ALWAYS first to contribute to charitable efforts, they sell poppies on Remembrance day and most consider themselves British. I get annoyed by posts trying to depict my reality in anything other than what it actually is. Kudos to Mr. Owl...he is 100% correct.

@Paddypereira I am teasing but has always been football. How do I know? Well because as a child we had these mini research projects to do. I had done all the kings and queens, rocks, all the history ones, etc and the last one left was the history of football. I was a sad geeky kid but I loved it.
Would you say that, given your knowledge, etc, of the Goat-herder's Guide to the Galaxy ( Bible) and...

Amisja replies on Feb 8, 2019:
@Beowulfsfriend He sounds rather like Javert. There are such moving moments in the whole book. The pure goodness of Monseigneur Bienvenu, who, I sense would be good regardless of god. The idea that Jean Valjean was so downtrodden, he believed himself he was beyond redemption and could not accept he was loved. I cared about all the characters. Not many stories do that.

Amisja replies on Feb 8, 2019:
@Beowulfsfriend I absolutely agree. The music is pretty but it misses all the facets of the human experience. The wicked characters are not entirely wicked, the comic characters are actually much deeper. The ends that Fontaine would go to just to keep her child alive. Wow...when I think would I have my teeth pulled and my hair cut off for my children, in a heartbeat..Victor Hugo gets people. He saw their honour and their dignity despite dreadful situations. Love it.

Amisja replies on Feb 8, 2019:
@OwlInASack I have to say, that when I met my partner's family, I realised how far away from working class routes my family had come. However, it is still there. My first house was a two up two down terrace with no heating and a coal fire. It had been built with no internal plumbing and still had the ash toilet out back. Poverty has been a constant in my life, despite being a lecturer and I would still align myself with the working class. Unfortunately, I have changed, I am still not comfortable with the trully middle class or some of the peeps round here. Our neighbours are mostly semi-skilled none professionals, although they are lovely, I have nothing to talk about to my next door neighbour who is a beautician. Its a strange world, only slightly more fluid than the Indian caste system but a million miles away from USA.
